| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 9, 2006 12 oz bottle from aracauna. Black with a ring of brown for a head. Medium bitter chocolate nose, sweet malt, and, for the first time in an oatmeal, I can smell oats! Nice! Cocoa flavors, coffee, some raisin. Good. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 9, 2006 Pours a deep black with a a med. brown cream-like head. Aroma is of chocolate rum cake with a touch of Irish Cream. The body is med-heavy with a perfect amount of bitterness. The flavors are so well balanced, you have to remind yourself that the beer is 8.1%. Nothing stands out predominantly over the other. Cocoa covered raisins, coffee and cream, followed by a refined balancing bitterness. This is one of the best balanced beers I have had in a longtime. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2006 Bottle. Small tan fizzy head that mostly diminished, lackluster lacing, opaque, no visible carbonation, and a black hue. Nose was malty and roasted coffee. Ditto for the flavor with a hint of chocolate. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. Medium body. daalamar (403), bardstown, Kentucky, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2006 Bottle thanks to Ross. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is coffee, grain and maybe cherry. Flavor is not at all what I was expecting. Light coffee tones with the oatmeal more of a creamy mouthfeel than an actual flavor. Quite acidic with a medium dry finish. An overall plesant beer though I was expecting more. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA

Tasting Temp 50° (previous in a 33° refrigerator)
If Stephen Hawking was to review the clarity of this beer, I would be reading more about Einstein and the universe, truly a black hole of darkness in a glass.
Much like the brewery mascot that is featured on the bottle label, the head retention is timid almost scared as only a small fringe of white is present on the outer rim.
As I swirl the glass around, half full of this possibly barrel aged, coffee aromatic, ale, I am compelled to still seek a hint of hops, although yet to be classified.
A casual sip, hits my tongue and reminds me of roasted coffee, curious espresso, with minor amounts of woodiness. Overall mouth feel, comes off as medium. glkaiser (1171), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Black with dark brown head. Coffee, chocolate and sweet cinnamon aroma. Great taste that mirrors the aroma. Very smooth and chocolatey. Alcohol is very hidden, and no bitter hop taste at all. Good coffee taste, but not incredible. Got this after a tasting with the guys from Bottleworks, thanks guys.
