2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 zenkis (241) - Ogre, LATVIA - FEB 7, 2013
Two identical bottles at the same time, two different flavors although production date is the same. The only difference was that one bottle was kept at home for few weeks, other one was brought from store that day.
1. Aroma-one sided- malty, pours clear, crystal golden, bubbly - despite being unfiltered, with huge rocky foam, leaving big-spoty lacing, diminishing in nice yeast like layer on top. Taste is mild sweet with far away bitter at the end, yeast presence is minimal felt, at late stages some green apple like sourness. Palate - middle body, average carbonation, a bit oily texture.
2. Aroma is more hopped, some honey in flavor, sweet, bready more than malty. Pours cloudy yellow, not so intense foam, minimal lacing. Taste is more spicy, honey sweet tones, bitterness is more intense(noble hops). Palate mainly the same.
So to me fact that same beer can taste different @ same overall conditions is very confusing.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 suurjuust (603) - ESTONIA - MAY 21, 2012
Hazy orange-tinted gold, big soapy white head. Nose is caramel sweetness, grains, bread. Taste has a biscuity-sweet maltiness with caramel, more grain and a hoppy twang in the finish. Bitter aftertaste with bread in the background. Tingling carbonation, thin to medium body.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 FatPhil (7494) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - APR 24, 2012
500ml bottle (?)
Looks good, almost as cloudy as a wheatbeer - cloudier than some cheap ones! Quite a bitty texture though, not smooth and homogenous like a hefe. Head small and settles to just a tiny spotty layer. Aroma quite bready, almost with a wheaty lightness, but perhaps some pulses bring it down too. Such a latvian taste, it must be the water and the local hops. A little bit of milkiness to the bready grains. Hops quite earthy and also tinglingly bitter. Perhaps some paperiness to the dry finish. Smooth in the palate, almost slick at times; such fullness in the unfiltered body. Gently crisp carbonation. Pretty OK lager generally, but a bit quirky. There’s something almost sour about the interaction of the wheat side of the grains and the hops, but it’s their only briefly in the retronasals.
