More bitter than the red-labeled «Tērvetes» (this one is slightly more expensive and carries black-coloured label, just like the famous scotch whisky). Color is golden, clear. Not bad.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2013 Bottle. Slightly bitter. Tastes malty. Carbonation is a bit low. While the bottle and aroma won’t leave a huge impression, the taste (especially at a proper temperature) will knock your socks off. Definitely a high quality product and one of the better beers Latvia has to offer.

Tried this many times, but never wrote anything about it. Decent foam. Well balanced tha akes it drinkable. Clean without bad aftertastes. Lovable bitterness that suprisingly stays. Refreshing. I would say one of the best latvian lager beers. Have to say it is strangely good :)

my opportunity to sample this beer is a monument of good intentions over beer-nerd sophistication: this came to me as part of the "great latvian beer airlift of 2007" (my partner went on vacation there-- don’t ask me why. sniff).
i know as much about latvia as i do about curing constipation in geriatric gerbils-- or the dark side of saturn’s moons. not that any such knowledge is greatly requisite in simply rating a beer; i just don’t want to endorse a beer if they use slave labor or anything unsavory like that over there; i mean, for all i know, they get their brewing water from the same treatment plant that services the nuclear reactor.
barring those considerations, i found a beer that immediately wanted to learn my language and adapt to it’s host country. "whissssst" it sang out when i popped the top, and like any american thoroughbred, it galloped into the arena with it’s frothy white mane tossing, and with the shade of yellow only associated with the better-made tin grommets of the world.
fairly clean grains highlight the aroma, especially grains that came to us in plastic bins. it has a distinct "circus-peanut" kind-of orange-scented cotton candy aroma-- or imagine if jello made a lemon-hop flavored gelatin dessert. not at all unpleasant, and probably quite an allure to those factory workers who might in fact BE slaves. how should i know? anyway, seriously, i have no complaints: this is a decent enough straight-forward quencher, tending toward a medium body, grainy, dry, well-carbonated, and with enough fresh-tasting hops to rank it respectably among the ubiquitous euro-pilseners.
but... if i can only get her to go to belgium NEXT year!!

Bottle. Dark golden color. Sweet fruity aroma. Flavor is little bit sweet at the beginning, but immediately I can feel hops. Originalais is more hoppy than other Tervete brews. Good.

50 cl bottle bought at a Rimi supermarket in Riga but drunk back home in the UK, in its sell-by month. Latvia’s best lager and able to stand up for itself in fairly stiff competition I would judge. Probaly hop pellets and 90% malt though it might be better than that. All the usual tastes of a higher quality blong lager.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 7, 2012 Pours light golden with little but sustainable head. Aroma is something between minimal bready and corny, could be more intense. I feel no hops not in aroma nor in taste after I try to get more aroma in to my nose by spinning beer in the glass, little bitterness in aftertaste, no dry finish. Carbonation level is average good, some sweetness in taste, no sourness - like it.

Bottled, from Stockmann, Riga. Clear golden, mid sized head. Bready malt aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and soft mouthfeel. Nice bready malt covered in a thin layer of grassy, spicy hops. Mid bitter finish.

Šis alus nāk ar lielu gandrīz balta galvas un dziļi salmu zelta ķermeni. Caramel, toffee, honey, plums, bread, faint air of hops to the nose. Caramel, sweet bread, toffee, butterscotch, grains, faint hops to the tongue.
Balance and body alright. Finishes with bread and some hops. Better than pale lager, more as premium.
