2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 SilkTork (4898) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, - JUL 17, 2012500ml dark glass bottle from Morrisons. Quite malty for a 4.2% beer. Few hops. Quite drinkable and inoffensive. A bit dry in the finish - possibly from the use of sugar. A bit better than I expected. [2.9]

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 zimbo (332) - SCOTLAND - NOV 27, 2012
Fairly dilute by my standards and surprisingly complex but not nrearly as surprising at how much there is an old school Tetley signature here. NIce enough crystalish shine and supple yet strong enough backbone. A nice surprise.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Leighton (6973) - London, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2012
Bottle drank on the train from London to Paris. Pours clear, brown-gold with a creamy froth head. Aroms holds leaves, toasted caramel, berries, grapes. Light sweet flavor with soft, toasted leaves, faint earth, toasted wholegrain bread, some ripe peach, toasty sugars. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Light malts to finish, leafy bitterness, faint brown sugar, grains, semi-dark and ripe fruits, faint demerara sugar. A very acceptable bitter.

Bardzo wytrawny i gożki angielski bitter. Głęboki bursztynowy kolor i minimalna pianka. Zero gazu. Wytrawny smak dominuje i długo utrzymuje się na podniebieniu. Ładna etykieta
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackHaddock (2365) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before 27 Jan 2012, poured into a UK pint straight sleeve glass on 15 June 2011.
Good looking beer, amber/chestnut brown, clean and clear. A full lightly tanned head sat proudly on top.
The back label mentions dark Guyana sugar as an ingrediant and the beer did give off a semi-sweet molasses aroma. Certainly more malty in the smells than any hop content.
The taste like the smell is more malt than hops, but the Northdown hop in the brew does appear, as a bitterness arrives towards the end when the mouth begins to dry after each sip.
Not bad at all, the 4.2%ABV sits well within the brew and it is fairly well balanced.

Bottle from tesco. Pours amber with very little head. Over carbonated, some caramel, quite sweet bitter. Better than I expected and just above average.

dark amber colour, slightly hazy though mostly clear, pours a coffee tanned head that seems to keep its texture decently. the aromascape is of a standard malty bitter character, giving off some additional forrest-like aromas like leaves, wood, earth.. some very light and weak roasted aromas are present. The taste is capable of producing nice stronger sour and bitter notes that keep my interest for a while. a hint of sweetness slightly rounds up the experience. I like these "sour bread" notes, and they are too rarely seen among bitter ales in my opinion. the palate does not really offer anything new. the slightly dry texture works well with the bitterness and sourness, but in addition to that, not much is going on here. a decent bitter ale that might work well as a good balance for certain food, but on its own, not worth of a lot of exploring.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 sm89walt (1587) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - JAN 9, 2012
500ml bottle. Poured with a slowly fading one finger off-white head & a clear dark amber body. Tinny fruits & dusty caramel on the nose. Caramel & fruits on the tongue, that empty sweetness in the mid palate characteristic of pasteurised beers and a light grassy English hoppiness towards the back. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, short & uneventful finish, lingering fruit aftertaste. Quaffs without a fuss but very simplistic.
