COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scotch Ale, also known as a Wee Heavy is a big rich malty ale. When you open the bottle we recommend you pour it into two glasses and share it with a friend. As you drink the beer slowly the flavor will intensify and become more complex as it warms. The beer gets better with age, so buy 10 bottles and drink one a year for 10 years.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a thin poorly retained, ivory head, over a clear, light brown (SRM 20) body....nose is light coffee, cocoa tones from the roasted malt melanoidins, hints of dried fruit including plum, fig, minimal hops....taste is sweet to start, with moderate dried fruits including fig, date, mild coffee from the roasted malts, leading to a light hop, roasted malt bitterness......mouth feel, body light of medium, sticky, slightly astringent, mild alcohol warmth, carbonation low with minimal acid. This is a poor attempt at a Scotch "Wee Heavy". It lacks the depth of malt complexity usually found in the style. Further there are some harsh bitter tones, not from hops on the finish. Also it has a very light body. A rework of the malt bill seems appropriate, and I wonder about the choice of yeast. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6

A decent beer courtesy my Secret Santa. Thanks! Aroma was decent. Chewy malt with a note of light smoke. Pour was a somewhat thick murky brown with a thin off white film for a head. Taste was pretty good as well. Very big and malty with caramel and roasted malt being the only flavors. As it warmed, it got a little more complex and some toffee came out. A little thin in the mouth feel and the finish was a little too quick, but still a decent beer. Nice carbonation for the style.

Bomber thanks to TJ. Poured a dirty brown. Nose of sweet, sugary malt mixed with an earthy funk, quite interesting. I get some nice notes of malt and a sweetness (which reminds me of runts candy) upfront. Then it just fades into bitterness, backyard & basement.

Bottle:   Deep dark caramel, thin to moderate sudsy tannish head, spotty lacing.   Woodsy aroma, some sweet earth/soil, with a touch of caramel and floral shrub like floral notes.   Light caramel sweetness, biscuit, with a large pale bready background.   No real peat, campfire, smoke, or charred wood.   A simple sweet biscuit presense is all I detect.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Slight dank earthiness on the finish.   Not bright, sweet or all that peaty.   Earth, shrub, and slight biscuit on the finish.   Not a memorable Scotch Ale by any means.   Thanks Bill!
