330ml bottle poured in De Oude Jan, Delft - Brown body with an off white head. Nose and taste both have caramel, toasted malts and some sugar which makes it sweet in a nice smooth way. Decent enough, and one I’d have again.

The beer has a very nice look. The color of the beer is a nice deep ruby red color with a beautiful glow. The beer pours a nice amount of rather rough almond colored foam. The bulk of the foam collapses quickly but a thin creamy drape of foam remains on top of the beer. The beer has a nice smell. There is a nice yeasty aroma that is present in multiple beers from the Texels brewery. It is a sweet aroma with a sour touch. The smell is quite sweet overall, but not to sweet. The syrupy sugary sweetness is balanced out by a tiny roasty bitternes and a bitter and licorice aroma. The licorice aroma is quite strong. There isn’t much else to the smell. It could use a little more variety. The taste is also nice. There is the same licorice flavor as in the smell. This gives a nice bitter aspect to the beer, combined with a tiny roast flavor. Again, there is a sugary syrupy sweetness in the beer. I also taste some red forrest fruits, which give a nice fruity twitch to the taste. The finish contains a massive sweet almondy alcohol aroma. This is quite nice and gives the beer something warming. All in all, a nice bock beer.

12/3/2006 2:25:41 AM Bottle at home. Spicy bock. Better ones I’ve had recently. Dark, well-bodied texture. Fruit and charamel tastes. Long-lasting.

Tap, vintage 2011 at Huppel the Pub, Den Haag. Poured a murky medium brown with a frothy white head. The aroma is rich sweet malt, aromatic hop. The flavour is moderate sweet with a sweet malt grainy, light alcohol, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. This has aged really well.

Zwart bier met veel schuim. Smaak is zoet en licht bitter met iets van caramel en chokolade. Erg goede bok met een hele zachte smaak.
