Yet another beer not on the menu but brought to me by the owner/landlord of the excellent Cafe De Grendelpoort, Valkenburg in Holland. 22 Oct 2012 and I asked if he had anything amber he wasnít showing in the beer menu: a 33cl bottle of this came my way. To be honest I found it a bit boring from start to finish and went back to the on-tap Ayinger Celebrator straight away afterwards. Clean amber pour, with a small white head. Malts just about rule the nose and palate: broken down I found biscuity, bready and yeasty notes in both the aroma and taste but nothing strong enough to excite my senses. This is almost bland: of course having it inbetween something as tasty as the Ayinger Celebrator canít have helped the brew a great deal.

Keg at Haven Texels, Amsterdam, 27/09/15. Hazed orange amber topped with a decent beige covering. Nose is caramel, spice, straw, light citric notes. Taste comprises yeast esters, orange, mellow dark fruit, bready. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Looks and feels good but fails to deliver at the business end.

The beer has a beautiful amber color. The beer has a nice orange glow. The beer pours a nice rough white foam. A decent layer of foam remains on top of the beer, like it should. The beer is quite cloudy, like a unfiltered specialty should be. The beer has a nice aroma. There is a sweet aroma, a little fruity. I also smell almond, some zest from citrus fruits and a tiny fresh hop aroma. The almond aroma is quite strong in this beer. Nice. The taste is really great. There is a lot going on. I taste the almond again, which is nice. There also is a tiny bitter roast taste, and some fresh fruity hop notes. I also distinguish a nice alcohol flavor. The beer has a good balance between bitter and sweet, quite nice. Not s bad beer.

Gushes dark amber with minimal head. Great lacing though. Slightly hazy. Yeasty and spicy aroma. Some sugars, slight metallic note. Bit dubbel-like to me. Taste is bitterish and pretty toasty with a nice sweetish and yeasty kick. Mild presence of caramels and a dryish, slightly hoppy and yeasty, almost creamy finish. On the thinner side of the palate, yet still creamy. Medium bodied and lively in terms of carbonation. Nice brew. Not astonishing, but certainly above average.
