Yet another beer not on the menu but brought to me by the owner/landlord of the excellent Cafe De Grendelpoort, Valkenburg in Holland. 22 Oct 2012 and I asked if he had anything amber he wasn’t showing in the beer menu: a 33cl bottle of this came my way. To be honest I found it a bit boring from start to finish and went back to the on-tap Ayinger Celebrator straight away afterwards. Clean amber pour, with a small white head. Malts just about rule the nose and palate: broken down I found biscuity, bready and yeasty notes in both the aroma and taste but nothing strong enough to excite my senses. This is almost bland: of course having it inbetween something as tasty as the Ayinger Celebrator can’t have helped the brew a great deal.

Pours an average frothy white head that mostly diminishes. Body is hazy copper with sparkles. Aroma contains light malts (molasses, hay, roasted malts), light hops (citrus fruits, pine), light yeasts (horse blanket) and grape and some dark fruits. Flavor is light acidic, then light sweet and light bitter and dinally light bitter. Body is light with watery texture and soft carbonation. Mwah. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bitter, malthy, gentle and some 'warmth'. This beer is not that 'heavy' but still gives some warm tones: spices & caramel.

330 mml Bottle tasted on 16/08/2014. Hazy orange amber colour with a decent head. Aroma is malty, caramel and dark fruits. Taste is sweet in the beginning with caramel, fruits and yeast. Carbonation is medium to low and aftertaste is sweet too but less than in the beginning. Next one please!

Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy deep amber color with medium frothy off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, nuts, dried fruits and grassy hops. Taste starts with medium sweet caramel malt, follows by yeasty and fruity acidity, mild spicy mouthfeel and light bitter finish. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Not a stand out, but it’s pretty palatable...

Draught @ Haver van de Texel. Aroma is stuffy with some toffee and harsh malt. Also some toffee and hints of cardboard. Flavour has toffee candy, some sweet malty tones and ripe fruits. Also some slight spicy tones. At the middle of the glass the bready malt and toffee typical to Belgian Ales struggle. Perhaps the last one is winning. Too sweet this is anyway.

Bottle, thanks, Cunningham! HAzy brown, lively carbonation. Bittersweet, nutty. Rather boring, probably has a broad appeal.
