COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Texian schooner Brutus was one of the first 4 ships in the Texian Navy during the revolution. Responsible for stopping the flow of supplies bound for the Mexican army, the Brutus undoubtedly played an important role in slowing down Santa Anna’s troops. Brutus is an English IPA that provides just enough malt character to help balance out the earthy/woody favor and aroma brought by the classic English hop varieties.

Dark, cloudy amber with a frothy, lasting white head. Aroma of heavy, English barley. Light lace. Flavor of a good ESB. Not sure why this is an IPA. Way too malty even for the traditional style. Still a tasty beer though.

An English-style India pale ale from Texas? I’m getting lost. Bitter but not harshly. Grass and grain.

Smells lightly infected. Pours 95% head. Taste is infected, awful. Can is about 1.5 months old from purchase. Undrinkable foamy infected.

Hazy yellowish color. Zero hop flavor and aroma. Pretty much a glass full of bitterness . This beer is no where near an ipa period. I hope this brewery can make some huge changes with karbach and St Arnolds around the corner from them. I seriously don’t know what they are going for. Terrible

Cloudy orange pour, fluffy off-white head. Nose is fruity esters and hops(?). Bitter. Middle is bubblegum, light cherries. Finish is lasting bitterness, combo of hops and alcohol. Not a bad beer, but seems off for the style; unbalanced, alcohol level not integrated with the flavor profile here.

Can was a little over carbed. Rust colored pour. Aroma is earthy, a little bit if candy sweetness, and mild Belgian yeast aroma. Overly carbonated. Flavors are candy sweetness, earthy hops, with yeast flavors throughout. ---Rated via iPhone

Tap at WoB. Pours a semi hazy dark orange color with a foamy white head. Aroma is earthy hops, plastic hops, resin. Flavor is sharp bitterness, floral notes, and super earthy hops. Finishes dry. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at World of Beer. Hazy ambe pour with an off white head. Aroma is woods, caramel sweetness, and a little grain. Taste is borderline spinach, woods, earthy mud, and a nice finish.

On tap at WOB Arlington. Light brown in color with a decent beige head. Aroma is of toast, light nuttiness, florals, and pine (like a flowered pine bush with nuts...if one existed). Taste is heavy in toast, pine, light resin, bitter, earth, and nuts.

I believe the brewery labels this as an English IPA, which I found this to be more American style. It had a strong lingering bitterness that was unmatched by the malts used. Meaning, unbalanced. There was a slight hoppy aroma and the beer was dark amber with a small head. Mouthfeel was full with good carbonation. Some malt sweetness up front but you’re hit by the bitterness that lingers on the tongue. Not bad, just needs some fine tuning.
