Bigger than a double IPA - yet smooth and refreshing

On tap at Backcountry Pizza. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong fruity hop, pine, and hemp. Medium mouthfeel with nice wet hop, light pine, with lingering bitter finish. Very good.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours very clear gold with a fizzy white head and decent lacing. Tastes like musky, sweaty pine hops with a hint of sweet grapefruit. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet, sugary, fruity hops and light pine.

Tap at brewery. Pours clear gold with fizzy white head. Aroma is floral and pine hops, cereal and biscuit malts, light toast, light grassiness, and some lemon zest. Flavor is a good balanced of fresh hop bitterness and toasted malts with light grapefruit notes and light pine; dry, bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation.

bmerz (709) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAR 7, 2014
Draught at the brew pub. Pours very light golden for the size, great lace. Aroma is a big blast of well rounded ripe citrus, resin, cedar soft biscuit malts. Flavor is very similar with a substantial pithy and hop acid bitterness. It is bizarrely not sweet and still balanced. Feel is full and fresh, refreshing such a big IPA. Super nice. A standout IPA.

mcberko (6453) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 1, 2014
On tap at Elizabeth Station, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is wonderful, full of piney hops, hemp, and just enough biscuity malt - what remarkable aromatics. Flavour is just as awesome, with loads of piney and hempy hops - so fresh and potent. Wow. Remarkable stuff. A special treat.

Draft. Bright clear, light in color. Not much lacing or a ton of head, but appropriate carbonation and a light body feel. Resinous hops, piney, pissy, pineapple, sweaty BO, boozy heat. Very light malt, crackery and dry. Oily resinous hop flavors, vodka, catty, some diesel, abrasive. This is an over the top beer with a lingering hop flavor that reminds me of the time I made the mistake of chewing up a hop pellet.

Big beer with a wallop of flavor. It comes off a bit boozy up front, but in time the alcohol fades behind the bold hops. Hop flavors and aromas exude a cornucopia of elements, most notably grapefruit, orange zest, pine, grass and dank pot. A strong, citrusy bitterness lingers well into the aftertaste. At its base, just the right amount of a bread-dough maltiness and a cookie-like sweetness round things out. Tasty hop bomb.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2014 Hazy, but refractive, amber pour with one finger of rapidly diminishing head. Juicy, remarkably complex aromas and flavors, featuring pine needles, grapefruit, mandarin orange, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, and mango. Powdery texture that is neither too thick, nor too thin. This really wraps itself around the taste buds, and digs in for an incredibly lengthy finish, while somehow managing to also be very soft and gentle on the palate, as paradoxical as that may sound. This is, without doubt, my new favorite DIPA.

Bright orange, pretty opaque, with a frothy, bright white head. It has a great, slightly stinky double IPA aroma, kinda soapy and very floral. It’s light on the palate, with minimal levels of caramelized malts involved and a graininess that reminds me a little of wheat. It’s so thin on the palate, with such low residual sugars, that the alcohol is really in your face. Lack of malt body leaves this solely a hop and alcohol-focused beer. It’s not bad, especially if you like in-your-face floral hops. It’s powerful, thin, and alcoholic, with a great nose.

On tap. Hazy golden with a lacing white top. Dank musty nose with sweetness and citrus. Citrus and pine taste.
