3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Velkyal (203) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - AUG 7, 2011
Pours a gorgeous mahogany, topped with a fluffy white head which leaves beautiful lacing down the glass. The aroma is rich fruit, like whisky soaked currants waiting to be folded into christmas pudding. Taste is loads of toffee, cut through with a sharp bitterness with leaves a long dry finish that simply delights. Medium to full body, well integrated alcohol. Lovely beer.

A brown pour with white head and lace. Aroma of dried fruit and caramel malt dominate. Semi sweet caramel malt and just a hint of abv. Medium bodied but just a tad fizzy. Very decent beer.

Appearance: Pours a clouded body the color of fine, aged leather. Modest-sized head of large, dissipating suds.
Smell: Cut hardwood planks layered with sweet-scented caramel and toffee and a good whiff of holidaytime fruitcake splashed here and there with bottled bitters.
Taste: Lightly toasty, nutty, even woody maltiness with a big boost of candyish toffee sweetness. Noted fruity esters tasting of figs and tart cherries. Herbaceous, resiny hops with more than enough bitterness to ride out until the dry, mineral-hinted, earthy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Low carbonation.
Drinkability: A good, decent Welsh ESB and a pleasant early-evening brew, though there are a few others I’d sooner reach out my grubby hands for.

Really enjoyed this atypical ESB. Pours a slightly hazy brownish amber with light tan head. Nose has black tea aromas with a suggestion of grape. On the palate the black tea comes through with malty sweetness, some off-grape fruity flavors, and toffee. Finish is sweet. Easy drinking. Wish it was more affordable for regular drinking.

Dark cloudy amber with a nice foamy tan head. You can smell the fruit when you take a whiff of this one, smells like cherries/plums. A nice medium to full bodied beer that balances it malts and hops well. Tastes like caramel and toffee with a slight kick of alcohol at the finish. Very good.

Brown pour. Nutty and caramel aroma. Flavor us very malty and sweet. Esb? I don’t think so.
