3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reddish brown, with a generous tan head. Aroma is somewhat breadlike. Definate caramel taste, with the alcohol a bit more noticable then I’d expected. Goes down surprisingly easily. I’ll drink it again.

"not a bad little bitter. a little sweet...light fruit and tofee, and a very delicate hop aroma and flavor with a hint of bittersweet in the finish. not the first thing I’d grab, but not bad either."

The pour was a cloudy deep reddish brown with a 1.5-finger off-white head that dissipated quickly. The aroma was toffee with a hint of holiday fruitcake. The flavor was toasty, nutty and a good dose of caramel malts. Slight hints of figs and ripe cherries just before the hops become noticeable. Herbal, resiny hops, but not a lot of bitterness. Overall, fairly well balanced. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and carbonation is medium, as well.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cloudy dark ruby amber with a persistent light head and streaks of lace. Malt and strong dark fruit (almost cough syrup); light bittering, no solid trace of hops. Somewhat heavy and filling. Overal good for a change.

Gift from SJ. I liked this brew. A nice blend of roast, fruit and caramel malt.
A mild hint of sugar, toffee in the dry finish. Well done.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is malts, fruit and slightly funky. The flavor is malts, a mixture of several fruits, raspberry, grape, apple, etc. This was more complex, a bit all over the place compared to other ESBs; it was decent as a whole didn’t seem to have a cohesive flavor, with some of the flavors kind of colliding and not balancing each other.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a gorgeous mahogany, topped with a fluffy white head which leaves beautiful lacing down the glass. The aroma is rich fruit, like whisky soaked currants waiting to be folded into christmas pudding. Taste is loads of toffee, cut through with a sharp bitterness with leaves a long dry finish that simply delights. Medium to full body, well integrated alcohol. Lovely beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A brown pour with white head and lace. Aroma of dried fruit and caramel malt dominate. Semi sweet caramel malt and just a hint of abv. Medium bodied but just a tad fizzy. Very decent beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Pours a clouded body the color of fine, aged leather. Modest-sized head of large, dissipating suds.
Smell: Cut hardwood planks layered with sweet-scented caramel and toffee and a good whiff of holidaytime fruitcake splashed here and there with bottled bitters.
Taste: Lightly toasty, nutty, even woody maltiness with a big boost of candyish toffee sweetness. Noted fruity esters tasting of figs and tart cherries. Herbaceous, resiny hops with more than enough bitterness to ride out until the dry, mineral-hinted, earthy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Low carbonation.
Drinkability: A good, decent Welsh ESB and a pleasant early-evening brew, though there are a few others I’d sooner reach out my grubby hands for.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Really enjoyed this atypical ESB. Pours a slightly hazy brownish amber with light tan head. Nose has black tea aromas with a suggestion of grape. On the palate the black tea comes through with malty sweetness, some off-grape fruity flavors, and toffee. Finish is sweet. Easy drinking. Wish it was more affordable for regular drinking.
