[695-20070925] Cask @ Far From The Madding Crowd (Oxford, OX). Musty wood and apples aroma. Murky, orange body with no head (oddly like cheese). Apple cider flavour is fairly sweet and hides the alcohol. Medium body. Well blended, points for oddness.

Cask @ The Wenlock. Opaque orange, like Tang for those that know, with a thin white ring around the edge of the glass. Sweet apple and cinnamon with some orange hints. Much like Tang all round actually, slightly dry but smooth and easy to drink.

Comments: Incredible product, kind of a guilty product in my case. It is straight atomic orange – sunset coloured and absolutely glowing. Just can’t be natural, but delicious grapefruit rind flavours. Totally unique and different despite the gimmick around it and still firmly tannic.

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 11 Aug 2007) Ok, so I’m not really a cider kinda guy, but why not finish a lovely evening at the Wenlock with a cider? Orange, reddish colour with brief white head. Fruity nose with slightly tart apple aromas (Red Delicious?). Fruity, slightly acidic taste with sweetish apple notes. Not really complex and lacking something extra, but still definitely enjoyable.

Polypin at Merton Summer Beer Festival 04-07-07 Tried this on the Wednesday night. Poured with a radioactive looking orange colour more like J20 than Cider, this colour must be artificial surely? Taste was dryish bit sharp and reasonable appley flavours.

A bright orange, cloudy and still cider. A fairly potent apple fruit aroma, plus a little sourness. The taste is on the dryer side of medium, with plenty of mouth puckering sour apple flavours. A dry finish. (Cask - The Fox & Hounds, Heacham, Norfolk).

Cask, Newark Fest 07. Very bright orange. Aromas are earthy apple juice with a light sourness. Flavours are dry, yet sweet apple with a mellow sweet and sour character. Fairly fizzy.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2007 A Mes rate: Cask from the Wenlock. Totally hilarious, sat in the Wenlock with Anthony from Du Bocq and Gert from Oud Beersel and I ordered this for Anthony pretending it was a hoppy English blonde. They both sat there staring at it like they didn’t know what to do with it. Considering Gert is a brewer of such fine lambics I wouldn’t have thought anything would throw him off but it did. Gert said he liked it but it was too sweet, Anthony said it was awful but drank almost all of it. Great. Oh yeah the rate, erm... BRIGHT orange. Straight forward sweetish cider that could do with some sourness for a kick at the end.

Cask, gravity, at CAMRA bar, Bromham Mill, Bedford. Bright opaque flourescent orange. Medium sweet with a background of earthy ashiness. No sourness or dryness. A slight sparkle.

On tap at The Boot, Weymouth, Dorset. Seemed to be the tipple of choice of a good proportion of the punters in this pub, which was easy to spot from the rather alarming orange colour, which I’m reluctant to believe is entirely natural. It may have been a case of suggestion but I thought there was an orangey accent on the palate to go with the sharp, pulpy apple flavour. Reasonably dry and tart but a bit short of farmyard character, which I suppose is understandable in a semi commercial product. Pleasant but not too challenging.
