COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vintage Cider from Thatchers combines the heritage of real Somerset cider with a contemporary style designed for a new generation of lovers of this very English drink. In the Thatchers tradition of using freshly pressed English apples, Vintage, as its name suggests, is produced from only the best apples cropped in a single good year. After being cold filtered, fermented then blended, Thatchers Vintage is matured slowly in oak vats, giving this robust cider an intense apple character with a lively sparkle.

Bottle 500ml. @ chriso.

Clear medium orange colour with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate apple, sour apples, sweet apples, barnyard notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light light acidic with a average to long duration, apple, sweet apples. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat to soft. [20110501]

Bottle from Sainsbury. This is an odd cider; aroma and flavour have totally different elements. Nose of wood, sour apple, dust and earthyness. Flavour is sweet apple, apple juice, bit candy like. Medium carbonation.

(2010 Vintage bottle) Eazy stuff. zappy and alive ; a nice dry, tangy woodiness is there -with some sweet apple fleshy notes being soothing. Pretty plesant.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Vintage 2009 7.4% ABV. Clear orange gold colour with only a few bubbles round the collar. Mostly orange and apple fruit on the aroma, with maybe something a bit deeper lurking there. Full fresh apple taste in the mouth. Some dryness and some wood and some marzipan oddly on the initial swallow and finish. Decent attack on the gums by the tannins. Some sweetness in the mouth. Very decent cider, about the best I’ve had in 2 days of drinking the stuff. Attack on the gums is pretty decent as is the tickle on the tongue. Very decent cider. Maybe just a touch too sweet.

Labelled ’John Thatcher’s Vintage of 2008’. Gold. Fizzy. Pleasant sweet aroma with some oak. taste is less impressive: it’s got a little dryness after the fruity sweetness, but I was hoping for something a little more sour.

500ml bottle (Kaisla, Heslinki)
Very modest aroma, light fruitiness, some acidity, and some wineyness. Very dry, but not in a sticky way. Good full body, sharp and pippy. Pretty woody.
