12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a clear dark brown color with a large dense creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of herbal hops, faint roast and nutty notes. The taste is bitter herbal hops, citrus and tropical notes along with an asian vibe and tart malts. Medium bodied. Interesting.

Aroma is pine, earthy, minty, and woody hops, toast and chocolate malt with dates, plums, and raisin notes. Flavor is medium-high hops and bitterness, dark malt backbone, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

mcberko (10577) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 11, 2012
12 oz. bottle, pours a dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma explodes with citrus hops, with roasted malt to back - a bit of tropical fruits too. Flavour of buttery caramel malts / roasted malt, and lots of resinous hops. Less roasty and bitter and harsh than Stone’s other black IPAs. Very balanced and smooth. Great.

Dark brown pour, off white head. Very straigh forward aroma of hops and light caramel malt. The flavor is smooth, creamy, hoppy, malty, lightly bitter but not over the top and is a damn good brew!

Bottle @ home. Fairly cloudy, deep brown appearance with a light brown head that dissipates pretty quickly leaving a few large bubbles. Super piney, ganja, very resiny hoppy, roasted dark malty aroma. Huge resiny, piney hoppy, sitcky, organic, roasty dark chocolate malty flavor. Resiny, roasty aftertaste. Really a big resiny, ganja flavored black IPA. I may be picking up some more of this, though it is a little pricey for a single 12 oz.

crossovert (10045) - Illinois, USA - FEB 12, 2012
12 oz bottle. It pours a murky pond water brown with tons of floaties and a fluffy light brownish-tan head. The smell is slightly roasty with some cocoa, there is a hint of tropical fruit. Not really a prime-time combo. The flavor is pretty bitter which helps it. There is a fair amount of cocoa and roastiness. The hops aren’t as apparent in the flavor besides the bitterness. There is a slight bit of fruit but it is subtle. It really tastes more like a porter with a ton of bittering hops more than anything, not really an IPA at all and not bad. If they just got rid of the aroma hops in this one it would be pretty good.

Dogbrick (10014) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 23, 2012
This brew pours dark brown with hints of ruby around the edges and a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and piney hops. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, citrus and toasted malt. The finish is hoppy with a lingering grapefruit aftertaste. Solid Black IPA all around.

355mL thanks to tastybeer. Clear brown with thick clumbs of yeast particulate. Pours a thicker, rocky buttermilk head with sheets of lace. Nose is super dank, huge hop resin, fatty tree nuts, meaty melons. Taste thick, spicy, big Asian melons with savory components. Really nice Black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
