COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Beer Formerly Known as LA TACHE is the table sour produced year-round by The Ale Apothecary. (TBFKA) LA TACHE is made of malted barley & wheat and Goschie Farms Cascade Hops. The hops are used only for aroma as the balance of the beer comes from acid produced by our house lactobacillus culture. She spends 3-9 months in our barrels during a long, relaxed fermentation prior to a month-long dry-hopping (yes, in oak barrels!). Our sensory experience is lemon citrus & fermented orchard fruit nose over earthy undertones. The palate finishes with soft lactic acid balanced by the malt body.

750ml corked bottle pours a hazy yellow golden color with a generous white head that retains well and leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is lemon with some mild funk and citrus and barrel tones. Taste is a lemon tartness with a fruity and malty sweetness and citrus hop bitterness and a dry yeasty finish. Medium bodied with abundant carbonation. Overall, a well done sour ale that good, but can’t justify the price tag for this one.

A 2015 bottle on the Ale Apothecary beers tasting at Firefly on Cambie. Bottled 06-Jun-2015. Tasted with Brian. Pours a clear pale golden with a white head. Aroma is funky, earthy, kind of exhausted gas (which disappers after several minutes), lemony. Taste is sour, earthy, lemony, fermented veggies notes (sauerkraut). Refreshing, good stuff.

From notes. Had this one at Doug’s House with a get together with he and Chris on August 22. 750 mL bottle shared as the night cap. The pour is a nice golden yellow with a thicker white head that slowly fades down leaving a nice lace. The aroma is blasting with citrus sourness and a great dryness. There is a light sweet barrel influence, but this is really a bright citrusy sour. The flavor is a little dustier. There is some lemongrass and a good barnyard funkiness. The citrus sour is still front and center. This is a really good, relatively simple sour. I like it. The mouth feel is a light and crisp, but it’s a little syrupy, with a nice bright carbonation and a lingeringly sour lemon on the finish. Nice capper!

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2016 From 750ml bottle. This is probably one of my favorite year round apothecary beers. It is a little more tart than sahalie and the high ABV is very well masked.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Originally reviewed 2/25/2013. Golden yellow body. Nice white head. Great surface foam and retention. Wine barrel aroma is strong. Bready malts. Slightly hoppy. More hoppy than I expected. Wine barrel is strong in the taste, too, but sweet pale malts and a bready malt character that dominates. Hoppy flavor blends well. Interesting merger of styles. A touch too sweet. Well carbonated. Another interesting offering from Ale Apothecary. Similar to Sahalie, maybe less crazy.

2013 vintage 750 bottle thanks to AdamC. Slightly hazy gold, full white bubbles of head. WOW, the aroma is full of oak and citrus. Musty basement and Mild Brett.

Taste is very nice, lemon, Oak staves, very mild Brett yeast, light notes of grass. The texture is dry, light and refreshing. Wow, this is really good. $26.00 a bottle good? You be the judge.

Cloudy yellow pour with minimal light head. Smell is citrus and earthy and funk. Flavor is notes of lemon on a funky good beer.
