Black pour with a foamy and bubbly light tan head. Big fat note of rye malt and bread dough and some gentle black malt roastiness. Big rye flavor with a sweetness from the roasty char black malt and some earthy grassy bitterness.

Nitro overly bitter and garlicky hops clash with an otherwise smooth, chocolaty, roasty malt base the malt is just hard to enjoy because the hops are so intensely bitter, and the bitterness lingers on the palate for-freaking-ever twigs/wood, garlic, citrus none of the hop character works with the malt did they even think about the hop bill on this one?

Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of rye, caramel, slight chocolate, roast and coffee notes, hints of spice, herbal notes as well, touch of dark fruit. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, rye, and spice, hints of orange peel, grass, and herbal notes, slight coffee and roast, finishing bitter. Not bad.

Roasted dark chocolate, light caramel, rye, a touch fruity, floral hoppy flavor with a floral, somewhat bitter finish. Alcohol is hidden well. Not bad.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 On draft at BBB. Black with a thick, light tan head that diminished slowly and left nice lacing. Big roasted malt aroma, rye, toasty, mild coffee, pine, light citrus, light chocolate, complex. Medium plus body, creamy and very smooth. Starts with the roasted malts and finishes hoppy with a spicy rye character. Great balance. It hides the ABV rather well. Impressive.
