A really nice, not too bitter stout. Black as your hat, this pours, with a good creamy tight head. There is little aroma, but the taste is of dark fruit, chocolate and a bit of coffee. There is good balance from bittering hops, but this is by no means a bitter, liquorice heavy variety, it focuses on being dark and smooth - and drinkable. Good stuff.

Pint pulled from cask at Pakenham Arms, shared with Finn. Jet black body, almost naked at the surface. Smell of liquorice on a backbone roasted dark malts. Wood and chocolate taste. Dry and not too sweet on the swallow. Satisfying (London, 01.11.2012).

Cask at the Pakenham Arms, London. Pours clearish brown with a wispy, beige cream head. Nice roast coffee nose, some dirt and burnt leaves. Light sweet flavor with dusty, lightly roasted malts, toast, mild baking cocoa, light earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Modestly dry and roasty on the finish, some ash and tobacco, faint rubber, baking cocoa, dry dirt. Pretty nice stuff overall.

Gravity Dispense at Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival 2012. Extremely dark brown approaching black with a decent tan head which soon clears. Nose comprises roast malts and a dose of chocolate. Taste follows nose, roasty tones and chocolate. Medium bodied with a lingering roastiness on the palate.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2012 Pours a deep red-brown with a clingy beige head and a malty winey aroma. Dryish palate with smoky chocolate and faintly tart red berries. Lacking condition though. Re-rated after a couple of months maturing in cask, the mouthfeel is creamier, but still smoky and faintly tart. Much improved. Re-rated again 15/Oct/12, a new batch: roasty nose, deep red-black with a fine tan head, roasty smooth body with wine & chocolate notes. Dry-bitter and smoky finish.
