Dark brown. Toffeeish but hoppy. Earthy and slightly berryish tartness. Good, kind of like a mild. Interesting pocket of beer exploring the gap between mild and porter.

Cask at The Botanist brewpub on 7 September 2013. Poured a very dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and Christmas pudding. Dark fruit flavours with assertive coffee and treacle. Lingering espresso, cocoa nibs and dates.

A really nice, not too bitter stout. Black as your hat, this pours, with a good creamy tight head. There is little aroma, but the taste is of dark fruit, chocolate and a bit of coffee. There is good balance from bittering hops, but this is by no means a bitter, liquorice heavy variety, it focuses on being dark and smooth - and drinkable. Good stuff.

Pint pulled from cask at Pakenham Arms, shared with Finn. Jet black body, almost naked at the surface. Smell of liquorice on a backbone roasted dark malts. Wood and chocolate taste. Dry and not too sweet on the swallow. Satisfying (London, 01.11.2012).
