Cask @ the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty nutty caramel aroma. Roasted malty nutty caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty nutty finish.

Cask gravity, Derby Winter BF, 17/02/12. Walnut with copper edges under a decent, cream-hued festival head. Aroma of cocoa-dusted forest fruits. Is very nice. Quite a lush raspberry and blackberry pavlova thing happening with leathery, Germanic, cocoa-sprinkled malts beneath. Love that discreet twang of berries and smoke. One of the best beers of the day.

Cask at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury. Nut brown, roasty chocolate aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Flavourfuk with dark chocolate and coffee as main components. Low bitterness. Nice.

Cask@Pigs Ear Beer Festival 2011. Dark amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts, toast, fruits, toffee and some mild dark berries. Flavour is sweet liquorice, some mild toffee, roasted malts as well as some slight ashes.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2012 Cask at the Botanist. Deep mahogany brown with malt, yeast and dark fruit cake on the nose. Fullish body with notes of burnt fruit cake, dark chocolate a little red wine. Dry bitter finish. Re-rate: new head brewer Johannes Lux has tweaked the recipe to make this a bit nuttier and a bit less bitter. It’s definitely more of a nut-brown ale now.
