4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head. The aroma is citrus hop and pine. More hop forward than roast forward, nice smoothness compared to over bitter over roast from regular black ipas.

Many thanks to jsquire for this bottle! Great floral fruity nose with hints of dry malt. The beer starts fresh floral, great dry. Dark roasted malt, fresh citrus hops, pine, nice intense bitter. The aftertaste is intense-floral, fruity, nice roasted-smooth with a nice bitter aftertaste. Great brew!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From bottle. Nearly-opaque deep burgundy with off-white head. Aroma is a warm tropical sweetness with high pine notes. Taste starts as sweet citrus then to a smokey, rounded chewiness, finishing off with a nice lingering hop bite. As good as, if not maybe better than the white rajah, in my opinion.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mild roast aroma, with a pungent bite of pine and citrus. Pours a dark ruby red, with a full light tan head. Very good interplay between the hops and the roasted notes. The flavor starts with a touch of roasted coffee, which then fades into citrus and pine, with a long bitter and roasted finish. A very nice black IPA, and a good representation of the style.

12 ounce bottle from Jungle Jims. Dark and chocolate taste with a nice hop profile. Not agressive, but well done.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, chocolate, cocoa, toast, light char, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with bright citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate roasted malt balance; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, chocolate, cocoa, toast, light char, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange zest, pine, chocolate, cocoa, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate roasted malt balance; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome black IPA. All around great complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate roasted malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler at home- pours deep brown, huge light brown head. Pine, toast, dank hops, roasted malts on the nose. More roast and toast flavors initially with the pine hop resin finishes with bitterness. Not too resinous like many black IPA s. Lighter bodied. Well balanced. Drinkable

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy citrus hops, pine, faint tropical fruits, roast, and a touch of chocolate. It pours a dark brown with barely some orange highlights and a two finger khaki head that eventually fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There are some thin webbed rings left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate with a hint of fruit. The finish has moderate pine, lighter citrus hops, and a hint of roast. It’s medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel. Overall, it falls into the hoppy Porter category for me...but it’s a tasty hoppy Porter.
