Draft. Poured clear black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark rye and hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very good beer.

Aroma: Hints of grapefruit and citrus hops. Appearance: Dark amber with no head. Taste: Medium bitterness with hints of sourness at the edges. Palate: Medium body, average carbonation, slick texture, long finish. Overall: Solid, we'll developed beer. Nothing standout, but nothing disappointing, either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler opened at Muckfest 2014, though I’m not sure who brought it. Whoever it was, I’m sure he or she is a jerk. Thanks, jerk! Pours a dark brown color with minimal head. Notes of dark and milk chocolate, citrus peel, earth, grass, and mild roast. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Milder than many other black IPAs. Good, too.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a clear dark brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have some roasted malt that is milder than many black IPAs, grapefruit citrus, light resin, decent bitterness and roast combination.

A bit more hoppy and less malty than a normal Black IPA but I LOVE it. Great summer beer on a hot day. It smacks you in the face and doesn’t fade after a couple like so many do. White Rajah good - Black Rajah, in yo face mutha.

Draft sample at the Portage Lakes Brewing Company in Akron, OH. Small taster glass. Pours a very dark, but not opaque with a light thin head. Aroma of pine hops, light citrus notes, roasted malts and spices. The taste is similar with the bitter hop profile dancing with the heavy malts. It was pretty delicious with a medium body, medium to heavy carbonation. Finished somewhat bitter with some mild spices.

Draft. Dark brown with a nice off white head. Bright pine aroma. Flavor is a little muted. Pine resin and a light malt backbone. Bitter lasting finish.

Tap at brews, pours a dark ruby color with a small tan head with decent lace. Aroma is awesome dank hops, slight cat piss, not much roast. Taste is mostly all hop, no malt roast flavor, taste like a regular ipa, not a black. Not too bad, but not great as a black IPA.

Poured on draft at the source. Pours a darker copper with a white head of foam. Aroma has sweet roast. Taste is mildly salty and sweet. Good for the style.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color with a medium thick khaki head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, roast malt and citrus. The finish is moderately bitter with an earthy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Very hoppy taste and notes of grapefruit. Goes down very smooth for a black IPA. Very clean and fruity finish. Great tasting brother to the white rajah.
