Rue D’Floyd is one half of a collaboration between The Bruery and 3 Floyds Brewing Co. Both breweries being known throughout the kingdom of beer geeks for larger than life barrel aged beers, it was only fitting that this brew would be something of a similar scale. Working together to create a brand new recipe for an imperial porter at 14.4% ABV, the beer was then laid to rest in bourbon barrels for one year. Rue D’Floyd developed notes of toasty oak, vanilla and toffee from barrel aging, which was supplemented with vanilla beans, Portola coffee, TCHO cacao nibs and cherries prior to bottling. The result is a wonderfully balanced yet flavorful ale exploding with coffee, dark chocolate, caramel and dark fruit.

Bottle shared by Tom10101, thanks! Pours black with tiny beige head and some lacing. Aroa is a very complex assembling of vanilla, caramel, marshmallows, dark fruits, coffee, chocolalte, roasted malt, molasse, and alcohol. Awesome mix! Taste is about the same. Alcohol is well hidden considering ABV. Balance is good. Full bodied. Creamy texture. A really nice one here!

opened 5/9/14. Pours thick black, basically no head. Huge cherry on the nose. Sweet cherry and dark cherry, on top of a bourbon note. Some chocolate as well, not much coffee. Tons of chocolate and cherry. Dark cherries covered in chocolate, with a bourbon vanilla. As you get more into the beer, a bit more coffee, and burnt chocolate comes forward.

Bottle (750 ml). Thanks to Marcus for this one! Black with a medium brown head and some lacing. Aroma is of coffee, roasted malt, cherries, dark fruits, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and light alcohol notes. Taste is moderately sweet with coffee, roasted malt, black cherries, caramel, vanilla, wood, alcohol (not much considering the abv) and light spiciness. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Thick mouthfeel. Warming finish. Very complex beer. No trace of infection yet. Good balance. Nice!

Bottle shared by a friend. Darkest brown in color with a medium tan head that dissolves quickly. Aroma of coffee, vanilla, cherry and chocolate. Vanilla and chocolate flavor with coffee and bourbon character before a tart cherry and booze finish.

Bottle share at Tribes Alehouse. Pour is black with a thin beige head. Aroma and flavor of chocolate chips, vanilla beans, bourbon, fudge, roasted coffee, toffee, and oak. Finish is sweet and a little boozy but the alcohol is hidden well for the ABV.

Dark pour with a quickly disappearing head. Aroma of chocolaty malts, vanilla, and a bit of the cherry. Tons of cherry and vanilla in the taste along with a healthy dose of sweet bourbon. Viscous on the palate.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Opaque black - brown beer, small tan head. Palate is surprisingly light and smooth, semi dry. Rich dark malts, little dark chocolate. Mild vanilla. Brandyish spice. Well integrated mellow coffee. A delightful touch of cherry on the back end that lightens everything. Finishes smooth with more chocolate malts and brandy.

First on tap at The Bruery then poured from a bomber purchased at The Bruery poured into a 3Fpint glass Aroma is rum vanilla & lotsa spice! Flavor is best when more chilled than not. High ABV-hot!! Light vanilla getting a lot of allspice here. Did I say ALOT of spice here?! As it warms up it becomes more robust almost a different brew getting more molasses reminds me of pancake syrup but in a good way. Overall a better than average barrel aged brew. Spicy. Luscious. Very good.
