"The barrels used, though still making this a totally different beer than the dubbel base, complemented (or supplemented the base) very very well. The brandy was subtle but prevents the sour tannic aspects of the red wine barrels to completely overtake things. What you are left with is a very highly drinkable moderately tart and funky beer with a firm malty base and hints of belgian yeast and sweet brandy. No hint of booziness. Quite good. Bottle. Black pour with a scattered slick of tan foam. Light chocolate and ashy roast in the aroma with a fairly out of balance shot of heavy, dark fruit malt sweetness. Some spice and light chocolate in the taste with darker malt and a flat, generic finish. Light mouthfeel. Okay but didn’t come together that well.

Drank with Thijs, Mark, Andy & Marjolijn 31-1-2014. Light coffee smell. A bit sour as well. Taste is a bit soury, alcohol, coffee. A milky, soft finish. The beer is a bit watery, not depthful.

750 ml bottle shared by?? from notes. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have a mix of dark and milk chocolate, spicy rye notes, dry grains, a splash of fruit and vanilla. Decent, but I like their big stouts and sours better.

Bottle shared at the 8th Richmond Industry Gathering, 12/1/13. Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of chocolate, mild fruitiness, rye finish. The taste is tart fruits, rye, chocolate. Medium bodied. Decent, but a little simplistic.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a dark brown with a medium frothy beige head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is roast and chocolate malts. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet chocolate flavor and light nuttiness and roast in the finish. Good.

Loved this fresh. 1.5 years later, the chocolate has faded and the flavors don't pop as boldly. Touch of smoke, more baker's chocolate, rye malt, good but not great.

750mL shared at Congregation Azusa. Pours a clear deep cola with higher carbonation. Wispy lacing. Nose is soy, savory, gin botanicals, smoked salt, then some hefty green olive. Taste is dusty, chalky, watery. Palate is watery, thin. Odd.
