COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Floyd D’Rue is one half of a collaboration between The Bruery and 3 Floyds Brewing Co. Both breweries being known throughout the kingdom of beer geeks for larger than life barrel aged beers, it was only fitting that this brew would be something of a similar scale. Working together to create a brand new recipe for an imperial porter at 14.7% ABV, the beer was then laid to rest in rum barrels for one year. Going with a "spiced rum" theme, additions of vanilla bean, orange zest, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, star anise, nutmeg and fresh ginger were added just prior to bottling. The result is a fantastically robust ale with hints of citrus, rum, chocolate, molasses, exotic spices and toasty oak.

Bottle courtesy of gendv138, thank you sir! Clear deep maroon brown color, beige head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, licorice, vanilla. Taste is wow! Very rich brunt licorice, espresso, dark bitter cocoa. I like this one.

750ml bottle of non infected beer, shared by Dan P. Poured black with a small foamy dark tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, smoked malt, jäger, cinnamon, and caramel. Taste of campfire, chocolate, spiced rum, dark fruit, and oak. Definitely an interesting beer.

750ml bottle pours an inky black with a ring of brown head. Nose has a ton of clove and allspice, tons of sun tan lotion, ginger, nutmeg. Smells like a pumpkin beer. Flavor has a ton of sugar, spiced coconut shavings, loads of clove, heavy caramel, some char, some burnt cake. Hot, sticky finish. Messy.

Peanut and bakers’ chocolate nose. Black pour, thin beige head. Bakers’ chocolate flavor with fig accents. Medium body, smooth, warm but not hot. Very rich and delicious.

750ml thanks to donnie! Thanks! Poured a pitch black color with a light tan head. Some notes of roasted notes, some boozy notes. Barrel character with some rum notes. Some light spice. Nice and smooth.

Dark as night, huge aroma and flavor (for better or worse) of rum and spices (ginger, anise, allspice...) and rum. A little hot, but expected given the abv. A little overboard on the pirate theme. I’m torn between giving it points for uniqueness (it WAS a cool beer) but taking away points for low drinkability (nobody was wanting MORE) and we split a bottle up pretty good. Cool experiment...probably a bit overboard with the spices. One I’m glad I tried but would not have again

Looks and smells great. The spiced rum is nice. For so many spices added its really not bad. I expected the anise to take over but it doesnt. I dont think its infected as I get no green apple taste.

Bottle from Dave. Pours murky brown black. Strong boozy rum nose. Vanillia, cinnamon, a bit too boozy for me.

On tap @ The Bruery. Black pour with a thin ring of tan foam. Nose has a strong gingerbread and orange zest thing going on. Fairly sweet but still a touch ashy and roasty. A bit of vanilla extract and booze. Flavor is a touch sugary. Kind of brûlée-like. Roast, some ash, and a fair amount of licorice. Lots of gingerbread cookies. Sweet orange zest and some vanilla. Perhaps a hint chalky on the finish. Not exactly what I expected, not horrible.
