4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 GreatLibations (1831) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - AUG 27, 2011
Pours a fluffy spattered pancake with a very dark brooding liquid. Smells of chocolate and whiskey. This brew is viscous yet yielding lively carbonation. A very rich and generous ale pushing abundant flavor performance to the edge with colors like coffee, cocoa, maple, and plum. A moderate sweetness factors in with high abv to somewhat tame this beast. This is wine beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 superspak (1480) - Michigan, USA - JUL 18, 2011
750 ml bottle into goblet. Pours deep dark brown color with a 1 finger tan head with great retention, that reduces to a lacing cap that lasts. Thick lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of huge dark chocolate, toffee, molasses, caramel, dark fruits, roasted malt, and nuttiness. Slight bit of alcohol in there, but not too noticeable. Wow, fantastic aromas here, tons of complexity going on Taste of huge caramel, toffee, chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malts, molasses, nuttiness, and a bit of booze in the back. There are lingering notes of big caramel, chocolate, and molasses after the finish for a decent amount of time. Decent amount of alcohol warming after the finish, with a small amount in the taste as well. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied. Fairly smooth drinkability for 12%, but definitely something I am taking my time on to finish. Best enjoyed very slowly because the alcohol and sweetness gets a bit cloying. Overall, this is an excellent Belgian Strong Dark ale, plenty of great complexity and huge flavor and fairly smooth drinking.

2.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 oobawa (626) - South Carolina, USA - JUN 4, 2011
Sweet doesn’t quite describe this winter seasonal; maybe diabetic coma gets the point across better? This bottle deserves credit for being very true to its namesake, but that doesn’t make for great beer. The caramel and chocolate dominate every aspect of this beer, save for the bitter, hot fade, one that torches its way down your throat like a flaming turtle. Should be toned down enough to drink with the rest of the series ten years from now. (12/29/09)

(Bottle) Pours dark brown to black with a creamy pale brown head. The aroma holds chocolate and a sour note up front alongside hints of sour berries, earth, nuts, new leather, brown sugar, mild spicy and whisper of esters (pears and bananas) Fat malt profile. Fantastic nose, best Bruery beer yet. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light bitter and light to medium acidic. Chocolate, nuts, sour cherry juice, liquorice, light spicy and fruity. The mouthfeel is soft, smooth and light tart with light carbonation. Buttery nuts, chocolate and spices alongside a sour note. Medium bodied.
