A Belgian style dark ale brewed with spices. The fourth verse of our Twelve Beers of Christmas saga incorporates gingerbread-like spice into a rich and robust dark ale.

750ml bottle from 2011 I have had about a year drank on Christmas. This is not one of my favorites. Pour was nice dark brown in color with a large head. Aroma pretty good to full of spice notes. The combination one spices in this one just didn’t do it for me and I can’t explain why.

Bottle, november 7th 2015. Dark brown body with a small offwhite head. Aroma is spicy with bread and mild alcohol, some nutty stuff lurking in the background. And yes I mean nuts, note some crazy shit. Taste is malty, earthy, quite spicy yeast esters. Sweet, christmas cake like. Quite a nice one, but not tehe best of the series I’ve had yet.

Bottle at tasting. Nose is cookies, some spice and fruit. Tastes of cinnamon, tobacco, cookie, grains, plum, earth, some yeast. Not too sweet or boozy feeling. Ok

Bottle - think its funny that I ended up trying the regular version so much later than the BA one but c’est la vie. A murky mahogany pour with a light tan head. plum, caramel maltiness, crushed and somewhat artificial gingerbread, nutmeg, quite sweet, mild carbonation and moderate body.

Bottle. Pours hazy reddish chestnut, small tan head, dissipates quickly with some lacing. Aroma is Christmas spices, cinnamon, ginger, allspice. Really does remind one of gingerbread. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, lots of gingnerbread spices going on. Medium body. Not bad, but it turns out that if you accidentally spill and shatter your glass of it all over the couch, and end table and your wife’s computer, she may not be too happy about it. In the end she took it fairly well, but it did take me a good two hours to clean everything to her satisfaction, and I know that a key or two is a bit sticky now. I am guessing its not the last I have heard of it. I do have a nice little cut on my pinky to remind me of my stupidity, but it is healing way too fast to really outlast the memory of the event itself.

750ml bottle. Cloudy dark brown colour with small, thick, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, ochre-ish beige to tan head. Sweet-ish dark malty aroma, notes of honey, ginger, a touch of cinnamon and aniseed, gingerbread aroma overall. Taste delivers identical flavours with different emphasis, more honey and aniseed, less ginger; viscous, oily texture, gooey palate. Well balanced, complete avoidance of hazardously soapy notes. Again, as might be the most substantial characteristic for The Brewerys Brue’s, I’m torn between admiration concerning their elusive imitation of genuine non-beer (product) flavours and the simple question: "Wherefore?"

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a dark brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong spice, cinnamon, and cookies. Thin mouth, strong gingerbread cookie, cinnamon, spice, nutmeg, light booze, very nice.

Pours a dark brown beer with little brown head. Aroma reminds me of gingerbread and is spicy. Taste is sweet, spicy, and has hints of gingerbread. Full body, coats your mouth with some nice alcohol warmth at the back.

Bottle shared with BBGTC. Pours a brown body producing a small tan head. Spicy aroma with hints of dried fruits. Taste is sweet at first but with spice and also a light sour touch. Noble oxidized notes becomes this ale very well. Body is full, oily texture and softly carbonated.

Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Deep brown, near-black body with a light beige head. Aroma is licorice, nuts, oats, grains, nougat, honey, toffee and hints of cinnamon, pumpkin and mild clove. Taste is licorice, nuts, nougat, biscuits, grains, brown sugar, pumpkin, cinnamon and hints of clove, raisins, wood and red berries. Full body, medium carbonation. Sweet, yet a bit sour somehow and with loads of complexity and a fair deal of oxidizing caused by cellaring (3 years), Pleasant and smooth, and interesting. Nice one.
