COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our í12 Days of Christmasí winter seasonal ale series. This is the only golden ale in the bunch but it definitely packs a holiday punch. We spiced up this 11.5% ABV ode to Winter with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with some delicious sweet and tangy pineapple.

Bottle at ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to The Peter (or The Peterís mother-in-law, rather). Pours clear, orange-gold with a fine, white froth. Strong pale malt nose with light spices and citrus. Medium to big sweet flavor with rich and sticky pineapple, white sugar, moderate alcohol. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm finish with lots of fruits, pineapple, orange, papaya, pale malts, some spices, light bitterness. Very decent, if quite robust.

On tap at World of Beer, Raleigh. Stopped buying these ones, but nice to try in a flight. Lustrous oily gold pour with moderate carbonation. Rich fruity nose with boozy harshness and a bit of indistinct spice. Initially a sharp taste but then the beer is richly sweet, with hints of coconut everywhere, some pineapple in the finish, and a moderate bite from booze and hops.

Bomber, pours slightly hazy gold, with just a quick fizz of head. Noticeable alcohol legs. Big juicy sweetness up front, touch of cinnamon spice on the nose. Cloying pineapple on the tongue, though decently balanced by the Belgian yeast. Finish could be dryer. This is a bit hot, needs some time to mellow out. Still an interesting brew.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Tropical fruit and yeast aroma with light malt. Malt and yeast flavor with light spice and tropical fruit. Medium bodied. Tropical fruit and spice linger with yeast and malt.

Pours a deep golden color with a thick frothy head that laces and sticks nicely. The nose is full of Belgian spices, sugary pineapple and some floral notes. The palate is rich and round with big pineapple notes on the front and backend with a nice mellow sweet spiced midpalate. Lingering sweetness and a touch of spice help balance the beer but its pretty overwhelming and definitely a beer you have to share with a couple people... glad I brought it along to a tasting !

Pours golden with almost no head. Nose of sweet fruit; palate of pineapple and peach. Itís a little too boozy, to perhaps it needs to age. Dry, sticky sweet finish.

Bomber Bottle: Pours a cloudy copperish golden orange with a thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Rich cake fruit aroma has hints of ginger and pineapple. Flavor is sweet and rich with hints of ginger and a tangy pineapple in the fruity finish. Very flavorful. I chose to drink now versus aging.

750ml bottle - $10.99 at Bullockís Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a deeply clouded, dark orange-yellow body with an initially tall, near white head that soon settles out leaving, appropriately, a ring of bubbles. Nil lacing.

Smell: Sweet-scented in the nose of candy-coated maltiness, given a generous dose of spices, and accompanying some rather cutting wafts of alcohol. Thereís a ranging fruitiness in the nose, initially, pineapple, but, then, more orchard fruits, and, with a little warmth, some banana puree.

Taste: Sweet, syrupy maltiness, but a fast adhesion of the tangy-tasting pineapple fruitiness, though thereís also some orchard fruit character and banana esters as well. Spicy yeast, aided by the peppery alcohol (a bit hot, actually), and boosted by the spice additions. Finishes out sweetish and fruity, leaving a little hot alcohol and spice to sit on the tongue.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: To nobodyís surprise, itís sweet, spicy, fruity, and boozy - itís a beer requiring a tall glass of water and a long winterís nap.

As with the stone vertical epic beers these ones seem to be marketing efforts first. This one is your standard amber strong ale. Some spices, not really any malt or hop character.

750 bottle from Caponeís, Blue Dog, and Smithís. Pours hazy gold with minimal head. Nose is apricotty fruit, mild funky yeasty, hopcitrus. Tasted dry, fruity, cloying, with mid-palate hops, and an overall discombobulated holism. I actually found it hard to finish, as it just didnít meld together.
