5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ’12 Days of Christmas’ winter seasonal ale series. This is the only golden ale in the bunch but it definitely packs a holiday punch. We spiced up this 11.5% ABV ode to Winter with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with some delicious sweet and tangy pineapple.

Golden with a thick white head. Aroma is pineapple and a little spice, maybe some cloves. Flavor is a little sweet and tart. Some of the spice is present, but mostly citric sweetness from the pineapple and oddly similar to orange juice. It’s an interesting try, but not for me.

750 ml. bottle- Pours very hazy orangeish golden with a one finger white head. The aroma is whoa, holiday spices, mint, ginger, cinnamon, maybe nutmeg, it is Christmas in a glass! The taste is so smooth, you can not detect the 11.5% alcohol, creamy delicousness is the best way to describe it, very fruity, pineapple is definitely there, those spices in the aroma are there too. Not the kind of beer you can sit and drink all night, a one glass, or in this case a one bottle is more than enough, it starts to become almost too much after the first glass. But there is no denying I really enjoyed this, like I said, Christmas in a glass!!

Sampled with my bro on his birthday, that he gave to me for my birthday! Unfortunately, I really don’t care for it. A syrupy sweet mess of grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel. Ginger and cinnamon notes on the nose. Tart citrusy sugar. Maybe it will mellow out with age. But right now, I really didn’t care for this now

On tap at FG with e a couple weeks back. Darker pour than expected. Dark gold/amber. Extremely tropical fruity palate with tons of pineapple or mango or something. Medium yeasty, but not a lot of bite/brett. Got to be a lot to deal with after the first half of the glass. OK overall. Shocking/interesting if nothing else. Christmas though?

Bottle. Pours a cloudy light orange with a one-finger foamy head. Great nose of pineapple and orange with a faint ester note. Intriguing taste of slight barnyard funk with just a touch of citrus sweetness followed by spiciness (hints of allspice and coriander) that lingers through the finish. OK, but it doesn’t match the previous Bruery "12 Days" holiday beers, and I don’t think this one will hold up very well for seven more years.

On tap at burger. in Aptos. Sweet and sour aroma, very sharp and boozy, banana perfume and pineapple. Nondescript spiciness, orange juice, sweet and messy and random. No idea what they’re going for.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Sparrow, 12/27/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, Belgian yeast, pineapple, some ginger, and other fruity notes
Appearance: It pours a hazy orange color with a small white head that leaves drippy, foamy lace
Flavor: The flavor is sweet too, it has lots of fruit, with some alcohol and spice on the finish
Palate: The body is medium, it has a creamy’clean, and tingly feel, and some light heat on the finish
Overall Impression: I enjoyed what they did here, and I thought that using the pineapple as the golden rings was a cleaver choice. I have not tried one these Christmas song beers since Two Turtle Doves, but I’m glad I stumbled across this one, as it was worth trying for sure. Also, based on the dominance of the sweetness and the high alcohol content, this one would probably improve over time.

25.4 oz bottle. Hazy orange with white froth. Nose is yeast, pineapple, toffee and allspice. Syrupy medium body with a tang. Taste is yeast, pineapple, green banana and grass. Spicing quite subdued finishing bitter. I suppose its their yeast strain that turns me off to many of their brews.

Bottle: Orange hued golden, slight haze, moderate to large foamy white head, little lacing.   Pale bready aroma, a slight melon or pale fruity aspect.   Getting a little alcohol and some spices.   Whoa, that is a kick in the pants!   Super sweet melon like flavors up front, bready, heavy, a bit cloying.   Backside, while my mouth begins to water like crazy, throws out a bunch of spices.   Pineapple ey?   Perhaps... seems like some kind of melon to me.   I think ginger is giving it a bit too much abrasivness at the finish, tangy sparks on the backside of the tongue.   Definitely not smooth.   This is a sipper considering how gritty it is.   Cinnamon and allspice come out as it warms up.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly full bodied.   Sometimes overly sticky, so keep your sips small.   Finishes with a strong pale breadiness, fruity (melon to me, perhaps a touch of pineapple), with lingering spices.   A little rough, perhaps to settle down with age.
