This beer is made in the pumpkin beer tradition, except instead of pumpkins we used yams, and lots of them! A big Belgian-style brown ale of 10% ABV, this one is bringing pumpkin beers (or yam beers) into new territory.

Very sweet beer. Lovely burgundy amber pour with a light beige head, no noticeable carbonation. The aroma is malty, earthy and nutty with toffee and caramel malts dominating the middle. Too sweet for my liking with prune and raisin notes, Dubbel esque yeast flavours and an underlying richness throughout. Smooth, rich and malty with a medium to heavy body, silky finish but still too much residual sweetness. Yams are lost to me but for the underlying earthy notes

On tap at Global Brew. Pours a cloudy brown with a thin antique lace head. Aroma is perfumy. Taste is sweet toasted malt, fruit, mostly sour cherries, and some noticeable alcohol.

Amber body with a slight orange hue and a diffuse head. Sharp pink bubblegummy aroma reminiscent of the slice of gum that would come in a Topps baseball card pack dominates, thought it is occasionally joined by breezes of allspice and vanilla. The body is again primarily bubblegum, but with an ample dose of vanilla and some touches of allspice. .

Very good maple flavor. Definite maple flavor. Malty, sweet and at 10% you can't go wrong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is lots of Belgian yeast, cinnamon, clove, overpowered though by yeast. Appearance is orange brown, light brown head. Taste is overwhelming Belgian yeast, clove, cinnamon, not getting maple or yams at all. Mouthfeel is thin, medium carbonation. Overall, I wish this was better.

I enjoyed this beer on a cold autumn night in Colorado, from a vantage point where I could practically hear falling leaves scraping against the window as they listlessly fell onto a fading suburban lawn. It’s a fine setting for this dark brew, and shortly after the pour I get a real sense of how appropos it is. THe aroma is packed with molasses, and seasoned with dark pepper and bay leaf. Overall, my impression is a scent that is both deep and sweetFascinating aroma. Lots of molasses and black pepper and all spice and even bay leaf. It’s a smell worth of competing with a slow cooker running through a deep autumn afternoon. And now we move to the body, thick and deep in palate and flavor. Sweet potato tang and sweetness appear here, borrowing some spice from the nose for a pungent, but deep, dulcet and satisfying flavor. Dark molasses provides that body and sweetness, mixing together well with all the other flavors. But do take cautious: this is immensely boozy. Let it age a season or two, or if you just prefer strength to finesse.

This is fall in a glass. Give up the pumpkin beers and graduate to this absolute beautiful creation. Beautiful dark brown color with a nice thin white head to contrast. Smells like pie. Big cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup. Totally sweet and bready as well. Taste is more of that cinnamon and nutmeg and big vanilla and syrup. It doesn’t taste like a yam forward beer which is fine, but you definitely get a subtle yam taste so it just adds to the experience. It’s a big beer and a sipper for sure. You don’t get any unpleasant alcohol burn but it is warming in a good way. Overall this is a treat. I absolutely loved this beer and I am not a fan of pumpkin beer, but I can get behind this in the fall. Great stuff. Cheers!
