2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle: very murky, deep copper & nearly brown body with a slightly creamy, khaki head that shows decent retention. Aroma is full of heavy spice, ginger & clove with lighter amounts of nutmeg & allspice. Brown sugar & caramel malt sweetness. Not getting any "yams" in the smell, but I wasnít expecting to. Taste is.... Strange. Sweet, sweet brown sugar, molasses, very light maple syrup, clove, notable ginger, and a weird, musty cotton flavor that isnít meshing too well. Some back-end, heavy grape-y & apple skin sweetness, nearly tart, that doesnít blend too well with the spice. Not awful but just... Very mediocre. Too sweet & kind of off kilter.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
*25.4 oz. Bottle* Look: Ruby red body in the sun, 1 finger head that turned into just an off white ring around my goblet. Smell: Huge spices, fruity yeast notes, sweet malts, candied sugar. Taste: Spices, yeast characters, maple in the after taste, candied sugar, fruity tartness like some aged cherries, vegetable starchiness. There is some heat to this, but Iím thinking it is a spice heat (cinnamon, nutmeg) and not an Alcoholic heat. There is a modest hop bitterness that helps cut the malty sweetness. Feel: Full smooth body, gentle carbonation. Overall: Nice twist on the "Pumpkin" ale style. Make a Belgian style yam ale. This brew is very dangerous. If it werenít for the spices, there would be no warmth at all. Goes down smooth and tasty. This is easily recommended.

Pours a brownish orange color with a light brown head. Smells a bit like squash and maple syrup. Taste is a bit sweet with a little bit of a zingy aftertaste. Some pumpkin in the taste as well. Pretty delicious!

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2011 vintage aged in my cellar and poured from bottle to glass. Clear reddish light-brown hue with off-white head. Aroma is huge malt and brown sugar, caramel, stone fruits, plums, raisins, yeasty esters.Taste is initially really sweet but finishes slightly sharp to help balance the huge malt bill. Medium bodied with a nice maple-ish essence. Reminds me of a Thanksgiving dinner. Not an everyday brew for me, but a really nice novelty. Would be paired well with turkey, mashed potatos, & light gravy :-)

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/25/2013. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, molasses, pear, apple, raisin, dark bread, toast, yam, cinnamon, clove, allspice, maple syrup, pepper, nutmeg, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt, spice, and yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, pear, raisin, apple, molasses, toast, cinnamon, yam, nutmeg, clove, allspice, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Lingering notes of dark fruit, apple, molasses, cinnamon, toast, yam, nutmeg, clove, allspice, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of malt, spice, and yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick and fairly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent spiced Belgian strong ale. All around great balance and complexity of malt, yam, spice flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
