This beer is made in the pumpkin beer tradition, except instead of pumpkins we used yams, and lots of them! A big Belgian-style brown ale of 10% ABV, this one is bringing pumpkin beers (or yam beers) into new territory.

Drank from a large bottle served in a wine glass. Dense beige head and clear reddish brown color. Very yeasty aroma with a bit of maple and clove. First sip hits you like a ton of bricks with alcohol and sweet maple flavor and finishes with alcohol and yeast. Palate leaves a strong taste of alcohol metal and sour yeast. Not my favorite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very good maple flavor. Definite maple flavor. Malty, sweet and at 10% you can't go wrong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is lots of Belgian yeast, cinnamon, clove, overpowered though by yeast. Appearance is orange brown, light brown head. Taste is overwhelming Belgian yeast, clove, cinnamon, not getting maple or yams at all. Mouthfeel is thin, medium carbonation. Overall, I wish this was better.

I enjoyed this beer on a cold autumn night in Colorado, from a vantage point where I could practically hear falling leaves scraping against the window as they listlessly fell onto a fading suburban lawn. Itís a fine setting for this dark brew, and shortly after the pour I get a real sense of how appropos it is. THe aroma is packed with molasses, and seasoned with dark pepper and bay leaf. Overall, my impression is a scent that is both deep and sweetFascinating aroma. Lots of molasses and black pepper and all spice and even bay leaf. Itís a smell worth of competing with a slow cooker running through a deep autumn afternoon. And now we move to the body, thick and deep in palate and flavor. Sweet potato tang and sweetness appear here, borrowing some spice from the nose for a pungent, but deep, dulcet and satisfying flavor. Dark molasses provides that body and sweetness, mixing together well with all the other flavors. But do take cautious: this is immensely boozy. Let it age a season or two, or if you just prefer strength to finesse.

This is fall in a glass. Give up the pumpkin beers and graduate to this absolute beautiful creation. Beautiful dark brown color with a nice thin white head to contrast. Smells like pie. Big cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup. Totally sweet and bready as well. Taste is more of that cinnamon and nutmeg and big vanilla and syrup. It doesnít taste like a yam forward beer which is fine, but you definitely get a subtle yam taste so it just adds to the experience. Itís a big beer and a sipper for sure. You donít get any unpleasant alcohol burn but it is warming in a good way. Overall this is a treat. I absolutely loved this beer and I am not a fan of pumpkin beer, but I can get behind this in the fall. Great stuff. Cheers!

Pour is a dark amber with a large white head. Aroma is plenty of spice. Large amounts of nutmeg and cinnamon but also a nice hop shows up. Flavor is also a big spice with a nice sweet maple syrup and brown sugar. No alcohol comes out as this warms. Donít really get any yams but I donít know what they would even bring out other than more sugars to ferment. This is all about the spice and itís all here and very smooth and drinkable.

sample at a tasting poured a medium brown color with smallish white head. the aroma was a pleasant nose of cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin spice. the aroma of the yams was evident. as well. the flavor was better than what I thought. got the yams (pumpkin) and the spices blended nicely together. this was near the end of the bottle and no sediment would have like to try more of this. maybe one day but it was very good.

750ml capped bottle pours a deep amber color with a generous light tan head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is cinnamon and coriander with some toasted notes and caramel. Taste is a yam and caramel malty sweetness with a light herbal hop bitterness and finishing with the spices. This brew was a bit of a disappointment considering the price paid. Flavours are a little weird in this brew.
