COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is made in the pumpkin beer tradition, except instead of pumpkins we used yams, and lots of them! A big Belgian-style brown ale of 10% ABV, this one is bringing pumpkin beers (or yam beers) into new territory.

Pours a medium brown with a large off white head that fades fairly quickly, though I’ve seen quicker. Aroma not too powerful, but I can distinguish brown sugar and some spices. Tastes like a fairly conventional brown ale at first, but on the back end there is a strong flavor of yams, followed by that belgian yeasty flavor. There’s also a spice flavor throughout, though I don’t think my palate is sophisticated enough to distinguish all of them. Overall, good beer. I really enjoyed this one. Will drink again next year. Also one last thing? This being a 750ml 10%er, I thought it would get me way drunker than it did? I finished this whole bottle and I only felt only slightly tipsy. Not that that’s a bad thing; just interesting. I’ve gotten way drunker off of less amounts of lower ABV beer with other conditions being equal.

Bottle (750ml $11): reddish brown with big tan head. Strong aroma of yams and spices. Some funkiness. Tasted the same plus a sweetness. As it warmed there was booze warming in the end. Medium plus carbonation. Seemed like a spicy Belgium beer. Nice

On tap at Taps in Petaluma. Pours a reddy brown color with a bit of work. Malty and slightly sweet. Nice Belgian yeast flavors.

Great beer, spice malt aroma. Taste pumkin/yams...slightly sweet, great carbonation brought out the wonderful flavors that meshed so well.

On tap at Whole Foods. Pours a translucent brown with creamy off white head that fades to wisp leaving frothy lacing. Aroma is sweet and spicy with vegetal complexity - mild yam. Flavor is sweet, reminiscent of a Belgian triple with candi sugar, cinnamon, and a note of sweet potato/pumpkin. Alcohol masked very well. Overly sweet, a little was plenty. Medium bodied, mild carbonation, creamy mouthfeel.

750 ml bottle. It smells like a pumpkin or sweet potato pie. Excellent dark amber brown color. This is my favorite Fall spiced beer. The taste is nutmeg, cinnamon, maple, yams, and apple cider with some bitterness and booze. More flavors develop as it warms to room temperature. Great Fall beer.

Comes together very nicely, especially for a non-maple fan. Cloudy red pour with ok head and lacing. Sweet finish. Tap at Snallygaster.

Rendkívül elegáns küllemű üvegéből egy teaszínű, opálos testű főzet tör elő ujjnyi vastag habfedővel a tetején. Illata olyannyira komplex, hogy szinte minden egyes szimatolásnál más jegyekkel szembesülünk, melyek közül azonban a sütőtökhöz hasonlatos, és a leírás alapján yam gyökér hozzáadásával elért aromák szállnak fel először, kellő távolságból ebben a keretben tűnik fel némi fahéjas, süteménytésztás, sütőtök-pités jelleg, amihez közelebb hajolva csatlakozik, majd fölénybe is kerül a belga élesztő összetéveszthetetlenül markáns, uralkodó karaktere. Visszafogott szánsavtartalmához telt és gömbölyded ízjegyek csatlakoznak, melyek az előzőekben leírt koordináta-rendszer mentén kelnek életre. A fahéj, vanília, szegfűbors, juharszirup egyvelege izgalmas kavalkádot alkot, melyek krémes összeolvadásának, fűszeres csípősségének kiteljesedését a belga élesztő szigorú arculata fogja vissza kissé. Az a fajta különlegesség, aminek fogyasztása közben egyszerre fájlaljuk a mennyiség vészes fogyatkozását és várjuk az elkövetkező kortyok adta lehetőséget izgalmas mondanivalójának megfejtésére.
