Grant Phillips was the winner of our Batch 300 homebrew contest and rightfully so. Grant came down and helped us brew his recipe for an oaked tripel brewed with the ever so popular Citra hops.

Hazy orange - amber beer with a big fluffy white head. Light crispy palate. Delicious fresh orange and pink grapefruit which has a bitter follow through. Touch of aniseed. Whisper of creamy oak. A little creamy malt. Finishes semi dry with a carbonated sting. Comes across as more IPA than Tripel but who cares? Great beer! A little more oak and this would have been up in the stratosphere.

A: The beer pours a slightly hazed golden orange color with a big white head. S: Smells "Belgian" at first. Lots of banana and spices coming through. There is a nice bit of sweet bready malt and candi sugar. A fair bit of citrus and even some mild vanilla. A bit of yeast in there, too. T: Sweet malt and candi sugar really dominate the flavor. There is some citrus to the beer, but not as much as I picked up on the aroma. Somewhat bitter, especially for a Belgian beer. Lots of different fruit notes as well as some light yeast. M: The body is medium and the carbonation is medium to high. O: I really liked the aroma of this beer, but the flavor didn’t do as much for me. The bitterness really threw me off.
