Commercial Description:
The first ever batch brewed by The Bruery, Batch No. 1 is the result of a homebrew contest we held in order to determine our first batch. Loren Miraglia and Mark Graham entered a fantastic Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale that captured the judges attention. Batch No. 1 has a pepper-like spiciness and fruit forward flavors of pear and apricot. It is deceptively potent and will continue improving with age. (ABV: 11%, IBU: 20, SRM: 6, Release: One Time Only, Format: 750 mL bottles)

Bottle thanks to rallison. Thanks, Ryan! First pour was clear golden orange, but the second and subsequent pours were cloudy to murky orange. Nose of honey, cereal, orange peel, coriander, white pepper, Belgian sugar, some pear and peach notes, and more sugar and honey. Nose is nice, but damn this beer is sweet. Cloying and a bit overwhelming.

This Belgian Strong Ale pours a deep orange gold color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, nice lacing with quickly diminishing retention. The aroma is fruity, peaches and apricots with some spices. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are orange and peaches, pears and other fruit. Hops are floral and earthy. Nice spices. Lots and lots of small carbonation bubbles. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Sampled at the ’09 RBPTE, courtesy of MrChopin. Bubble gum and honey, cereal, toffee and a bit of BandAid. Dull light amber body with frothy off-white lacing head. Full bodied, sticky, with medium carbonation. Boozy and sweet, almost like a tripel, with a very light bitterness that doesn’t really dampen the sweetness. Pretty good.

Bottle at Captain Lawrence during the release of Smoke from the Oak Apple Brandy Barrel. Think Chris from BA brought this one. Pours a just hazed amber with a thin white head. Light isopropyl and green apple. Very sweet, lots of honey flavors along with some soft pear. Rather cloying and hard to drink. I still think Patrick Rue is a very cool guy though.

This one poured a golden yellow color with a white head. Aroma was sweet, candy sugar, pepper and alcohol. Flavor was a bit fruity, some yeast little spiceness and a very detectable alcohol presence, but not completely overwhelming

Big thanks to MrChopin for bringing this to the Pittsburgh RB tasting extravaganza ib 8/2009. Slighly hazy. Pale yellow. Strong alky impressions but has an interesting fruitiness about the olfactory. No carbonation detectable. Medicinal odd cough medicine. Sweet and tart at times lurking in the background, adds to the uniqueness of this brew. Alky lingering finish. Thanks kevin for letting me taste this even tho I am not good enough for it.
