Commercial Description:
The first ever batch brewed by The Bruery, Batch No. 1 is the result of a homebrew contest we held in order to determine our first batch. Loren Miraglia and Mark Graham entered a fantastic Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale that captured the judges attention. Batch No. 1 has a pepper-like spiciness and fruit forward flavors of pear and apricot. It is deceptively potent and will continue improving with age. (ABV: 11%, IBU: 20, SRM: 6, Release: One Time Only, Format: 750 mL bottles)

On Tap at Hollingshead. Batch No. 1 Pours a deep golden yellow/orange. Near white head that lasts. The flaver is of sweet fruits and spice. The alcohol is well hidden. A really nice beer from these guys. Would buy again. (ABV: 11%, IBU: 20, SRM: 6, Release: One Time Only, Format: 750 mL bottles)

I have had this now a few times, and I am just not a fan at all. Pours a medium to deep copper with a lackluster body and moderate carbonation- and a diminsihing head. Aroma has so much DMS that it is fairly off-putting, and one time I got a bit of diacetyl to add to it- meh- herbal earthy and spicy with a wierd dull belgian yeast character- almost like the ferment had some yeast problems maybe? Flavor is also DMS- some cabbage and corniness in there- a slick stale crystal malt sweetness, some toast, and nuts, good herbal spices, but yeastiness is boring here. Meh.

Bottle from Hi-Time Wine in Costa Mesa, CA. This was one of the most unique beers I’ve ever had. It was almost like drinking flowers. Crazy as that sounds that the best way I could describe it. Sweet sugars give this beer a wonderful fruity and floral taste. Definately worth the 15.99 because I’ll probably never get a chance to drink it again.

DTM scored this bottle on the DL trip. I’ve never seem a bottle signed before... it turns out for good reason. The genre of Belgian Strong just doesn’t do this brew justice. The smell wasn’t great, considering it smelled on spicy lager. However, the taste was amazing. Brewed with Belgian sugar, this one wasn’t over- sweet, and it had a strong flavor without an alcohol burn. Superior palate control and definitely worth the money. I noticed the pear and apple hints mostly, although it seemed like I was drinking a bouquet.

Bottle #96 from Whole Foods. Medium golden/amber in color. Sweet yeaty aromas. Some earthy qualities with spices and a touch of grains. A little alcohol is noticable as well. Smooth, sweet and fruity. Some spiciness. Alcohol is a little noticable. Slightly off sour finish. Overall pretty good.

Bottle... Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8... Hazy golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Sweet and spicy aroma offers notes of honey, clove, banana and a smattering of herbs. Full-bodied with prickly carbonation. Starts sweet, but then the herbs, alcohol, hops and acidity kick in to almost balance it out. Finishes sweet and spicy.
