The first ever batch brewed by The Bruery, Batch No. 1 is the result of a homebrew contest we held in order to determine our first batch. Loren Miraglia and Mark Graham entered a fantastic Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale that captured the judges attention. Batch No. 1 has a pepper-like spiciness and fruit forward flavors of pear and apricot. It is deceptively potent and will continue improving with age. (ABV: 11%, IBU: 20, SRM: 6, Release: One Time Only, Format: 750 mL bottles)

750ml bottle - thanks to OldMrCrow for sharing this bottle at a recent tasting. Pours clear gold with no head. Aroma: caramel, tomato juice, spice; age (garbage and old hops). Odd combination; I donít know if itís due to age, or just inherent oddness. Taste brings in more caramel; pretty sweet (expected), but not full on diabetes of later Bruery beers Iíve had. Medium body, oily texture. Some hint of candied orange at the end. Hard to shake the tomato, but definitely a cool piece of history.

Bottle @ Every Bruery Beer Tasting. The beer is a mostly clear orange pour with a small white head. Smells like honey and sweet brown sugar. A bit of candied orange peel. Light booze and canned pear. Sort of cardboardy on the flavor. A bunch of sweet fruit cocktail and orange preserves. Honey and bread dough are also prominent. Meh. Typical old, rotten beer.

Bottle from my cellar shared at a tasting.

Golden pour, no head but the carbonation is fine. It comes off as a sweet alcohol-forward Belgian ale. Lots of candi sugar, a little bit of spice. Plenty of oxidation. Tolerable but no better. On the positive side, I now know that the Bruery has been brewing beers too big and too sweet since the very first batch.

750ml bottle at a Seattle tasting. Caramel orange, tiny head. Apple juice, or tomato juice as the rest of the crew is saying. Some spice, soft fruity. Brown sugar, sweet tart dry.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma is really odd, with medicinal notes, loads of tomato juice, and candied sugar. Flavour tastes like tomato juice too, like a Bloody Mary mix, with candied sugar and some medicinal notes. Crazy how much like tomato juice this tastes like. Not a disaster, but certainly not good.

750-mL bottle. Oxidized cardboard, sweet caramel corn, and a bit of red grape on the aroma. Pours a slightly cloudy orangish color; no head. Sweet, mellow caramel is the dominant flavor with light graham cracker, light lemon juice and a more prominent vinous tone than the nose with the slightest hint of tropical esters. It definitely shows signs of age, but it has held up decently and still drinks well.
