COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first ever batch brewed by The Bruery, Batch No. 1 is the result of a homebrew contest we held in order to determine our first batch. Loren Miraglia and Mark Graham entered a fantastic Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale that captured the judges attention. Batch No. 1 has a pepper-like spiciness and fruit forward flavors of pear and apricot. It is deceptively potent and will continue improving with age. 750ml. What a treat getting this bottle at Naja’s was. Dark amber gold color. Thick bubbly head, oily lacing. Tons of malt in the aroma. Little fruity and pretty sweet. Pretty boozy and heavy on the palate. A slow sipping beer.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2008 750ml bottle brought by theisti. Aroma is light fruit, candi sugar, white pepper. Taste is very fruity with white pepper, alcohol (not bad, just there), a bit of biscuty malt, and vanilla/yeastiness. This is a very, very good BGSA.

Signed bottle courtesy of Vac and Zug4abby. Pours a hazy orange with a small diminishing white head. Aroma of phenols and apple/ pear esters. Medium bodied with a slight sticky texture. Solid backdrop of Belgian pale malts, with a moderate amount of sweetness and flavors of pear and spice. Detectable but not distracting alcohol on the finish, with some yeast and clove phenols. Not bad, and much better than the Orchard White.

The Bruery Batch No. 1 Levud’s versus its barrel-aged brother. Bottle #1771. Appearance: Pours a hazy, pale orange-gold body with a bubbly, white head. Smell: Sweetish, juicy nose of fresh-sliced peaches and pears dusted with white pepper and candi sugar. Slight waft of alcohol. Taste: Sweet candi sugar and light pale malts start with a further fruitiness carried over from the aroma. Pop of booziness in the mouth. Sip of banana juice midway. Slight spiciness. Floral, herbal hop character with a light bitterness. Touch of yeast. Finishes dry with a lingering taste of sliced bananas served atop soda crackers. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: While this is a fine, satisfying brew, it’s barrel-aged counterpart comes out on top for me.

Pours slightly hazy deep gold with nice white head. The aroma has musty apricots and pears to go along with sugar sweetness, honey, spices and herbs. The taste starts with a pulse of vague sugar sweetness and then moves into pear and apricot fruity sweetness. It becomes mildly honey like with a thin layer of tartness just underneath. Nice full flavors blending together creating a pleasing experience.

Bottle from Liars Club. Clear golden with a rocky white head. Sweet fruit and alcohol aroma and taste with pear and caramel notes and a semi-dry finish.

This poured deep golden to orange in color with a fluffy white head that dissipated down. The nose gave off aromas of candied orange peel, yeast, apricot, rock candy and some herbal hoppiness. In the mouth it was medium-bodied and surprising fresh and well-balanced given the alcohol content. There is solid palate weight with a tart citric edge running through the midpalate to the finish which turns a bit dry and herbal. This one appears that it will age well.
