DenverLogan (420), Oceanside, California, USA May 1, 2008 A dark version of the white, which was very tasty, this one with wheat, oats, spices, some sweetness, and an overall tasty rich flavor balance.
rallison (26), USA Jul 18, 2008 I’ve had this on tap a few times, but this is the first bottle. Enjoying it more than the tap version.
While the flavors still don’t completely mesh, I am starting to understand the idea behind this beer. Take a wheat beer, throw in some roasted malts, then soften it with oats. After losing some of the over-carbonation from the bottle, this interesting balance does actually come together. Not perfectly, but it does. Interesting spicing as well.
Overall, from the bottle is, in my opinion, much better than from tap. Worth a try, at the very least. jjpm74 (2722), Connecticut, USA Jul 15, 2008 750 from South Bay. Pours dark brown with a genetous tan head. Smells of citrus, coriander, bananas, some nice spicy hints, wheat. Tastes citrussy with some tarte lemony hints, notes of coriander, some nutty hints. Tastes like a blend of brown ale and witbier. chrisafari (53), Orange, California, USA Jul 8, 2008 750 ml bottle from Vendome Liquor, Fullerton Ca. Pours dark black/purple with medium to full tan colored head. Sweet aroma of yeast and plums. Flavor of plums and other stone fruits with a finish a dry wheat and malt in the throat. Smooth palate, but seems a little too carbonated (carb. fades about 1/2 way through). Nice belgian ale with good flavor. papajohn (977), San Diego, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 750 ml bottle From Holiday Wine Cellar: Dark brown, almost black with small fading off-white head. Aroma of black cherries with some belgian spice. Flavor is dark fruit (raisin, plum, cherries) with a peppery bitterness and fruity dry finish. Light-medium body is thin with very lively carbonation. Kinda Trois Pistoles like. BOLTZ7555 (404), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 29, 2008 GUSHER on steriods!!! This beer oozed from the bottle for at least 5 minutes. Once through the foam, a dark chocolate brew appeared. Unique in that it exhibited both banana & clove, as well as darker qualities. More apparent were the roasted malt, raisin, and plum. A little thinner than one would want. Very flavorful.
