4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle 75 cl shared with (and thanks to) Tim. 2010 version. This beer is proudly elegant and balanced even in the aroma: itís like a marriage between bourbon and chocolate. Anyway its aroma is REALLY wide, you could smell at distance. Complexity and richness goes beyond: full of vanilla, cocoa, wine, burned sugar, molasses, dark fruits, cherries (and sherry). No lacing, no, head, just BLACK. Full body absolutely not invasive or aggressive, but very very very ... very malty, roasted and pleasant at the same time. You could find moreover anything I mentioned about aroma before. And oak, wood, vanilla again, all has its right presence. Balanced sweetness, and alcohol notes are minimum despite the 18.2% ABV. Like a great brownie dunked in bourbon. Carbonation is simply awesome, finish like a sweet red wine like port. Surely not so drinkable - like a fresh Dark Horizon 3rd edition, for instance - but you should pay attention since with the right food pairing could be dangerous: I think it would be a not so hard attempt to have it alone, trust me. Smooth, balanced, nearly perfect. Just a little, very little step under my two favorite IRS ever (Kaggen Stormaktsporter and Founders KBS), it goes draw with Bells Expedition Stout and overtake all the other big IRS like Dark Lord, Darkness, ecc., ecc., you know that a big whale its ever surrounded by its myth aura but this isnít the case so enjoy it without prejudice. ;)

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Was lucky to have a close friend share a bottle.Heavy red wine, tart grapes, raisins, port wine and faint chocolate aroma. Completely black appearance with no foam and no lacing. Taste is insanely intense with rich port wine overtones. Other notes chocolate, raisin, deep plums, grapes, dark chocolate, bourbon, rum, toffee, molasses. cocoa nibs, slick syrupy malts and juicy dark fruits. Overall, this beer is so sweet and is more reminiscent of a sweet port wine rather than a beer; let alone an Imperial Stout. Served cold, the alcohol is almost non-existent which astonishing for over 19% but as it warms, the alcohol really gets to your palate. The Imperial Stout style is really overwhelmed by the boozy barrel aging and the port wine overtones but there is some raisin, chocolate, cocoa nib characteristic there as well as slick, syrupy Barley Wine notes. Really something special. A+ rating.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from RS membership. Aroma and flavor is of a bourbon chocolate milkshake beer. Has enough sweetness to not be cloying for me, but it's pushing the envelope. The bourbon and chocolate notes are so well balanced with good carbonation that it's hard not to love. Remove some bourbon and add cocao and vanilla, and there's CR. Excellent beer this crap Tuesday!

Very Sweet, viscous, pleasant alcohol warmth. Alcohol is well hidden. Silky smooth, soft, creamy, sticky syrupy. So much character and everything is so well integrated. Chocolate, dark fruit, roasted malty, toffee, sticky caramel, honey, bourbon, wood, port.
