COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rustic beer is the result of barrel aging a blend of our Anniversary, English-style old ale, with Smoking Wood, an imperial smoked rye porter. Bois Fumé, meaning "Smoking Wood" in French, is pleasantly sweet with a dry, peaty finish.

HMOG 2015. This one was interestsing and now reading the description, it makes some sense. Couldn’t grasp it at the time, but char, peat, wood, caramel, cocoa, booze, sweet, unbalanced.

Bottle... Pours murky and dark brown with a small, fluffy, fat-bubbled head. The aroma consists mainly of fudge - accompanied by toasted coconut and nose hair-burning spirits. Full-bodied and creamy with lazy carbonation. The flavor is a mélange of chocolate, liquor and a moderate amount of acidity. Finishes lightly acrid and carbonic with lingering alcohol heat – then warmth. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

Bottle: Dark, dense brown, black once it couples into the glass with a bubbly, gray-beige head skimmed softly along the top. Aroma with a light smokiness up front, honestly less than expected. Nice sweet campfire element to it; notes of woodsy maple syrup, booze, sweet black cherries, charred oak lathered in burnt molasses, & a moderate amount of roasted malt. Taste is a little more smoky, & gains some steam as it warms up. Liquid smoke & faint charcoal, dark fudge, molasses, maple syrup, ashy wood, & a hint of smoked meats. The booze is pretty potent with a warming bourbon burn during each swallow... 16.2% ABV will do that, I guess. Bitter cacao nib, charred oak, & moderate sweet-smoke finish. A nice beer.

Had this lsat night split 5 ways with some friends. Pour is murky almost black pour. Light head, nose is sweet with chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and a touch of smoke, smells pretty good. Taste though you get an explosion of peat, latex and charcoal ash. the sweetness of bois does balance it out nicely.

From notes. Bottle shared by Adam, thanks! Pours medium brown with a scant beige head. Aroma is earthy oxidized caramel, smoke. Flavor follows, oaky, smoky finish. I had no idea this was 16%.

Bottle purchased from the RS. Aroma is chocolate malts, light smoke, mild oak. Like the nose.

The flavor does show the Bois which I enjoy. The Smoking wood comes through toward the finish. Medium body, ashy texture. Ok. The impressive thing is it does not display the ABV any place.

75cl, Vintage 2014, new exclusive American blended brew, thx alot to Bruce for bringing this over!, very complex smoked brew, alcoholic/sweet/roasted and slightly smoked/woody, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, WOW!

I really liked this, although it wasn’t getting much notice at the bottle share. Smoky, peaty aroma and taste would make me think this more of a smoked beer than the string ale classified here. Nice woody notes from the barrels also.

There’s some warmth here, but no way do you taste over 16%. The sweetness of the Bois, and the Smoke in the SW balance each other pout, at least a little, and give you a beer that is similar to both but not as over the top as either. Great beer

(750ml bottle) espresso to ruby brown edges, fine tan edge bubbles. Nose is rich and complex, raisin, lightly complex, bourbon, vanilla and dark fruits. Taste of raisin, light smoke and peat, big caramel, bourbon, sweet, rummy. A little sweet overall and a major peaty linger.
