This rustic beer is the result of barrel aging a blend of our Anniversary, English-style old ale, with Smoking Wood, an imperial smoked rye porter. Bois Fumé, meaning "Smoking Wood" in French, is pleasantly sweet with a dry, peaty finish.

Bottle shared at the chriso Easter 2015 tasting - London. Many thanks to T-Bois for this 16%er. Pours oily black with a light tan foam head. Great nose, lots of peat, maple syrup, toffee. Hugely sweet flavor - go figure! - with some burnt toffee, well ripened dark fruits, maple, faint peat. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Hot finish with notes of dark fruits, figs, mellow peat, dark bread, fruitcake. Very solid.

Big nose of brown sugar, figs, oak, and toffee. Deep caramel sweetness and dark fruits cannot hide the alcohol, but the smoke and spice compliment it very well. Very nice sipper.

Bottle. Aroma: Butterscotch, maple syrup, milk chocolate, vanilla, raisin, fig, alcohol, smoky whiskey. Smoke isn’t as pronounced as the fruit and barrel notes. Flavor: smokier. Alcohol is big, with more smoky whiskey notes. Dark chocolate, vanilla bean, tons of charred oak. Booze and smoke get in the way of the underlying flavors a bit. Overall: A man’s beer. Nice for sipping in a study, while wearing spectacles and perusing a volume of some sort.

750. Thanks, J! Pours a murky dark brown with a dense and creamy light tan mousse that settles away quickly. Big sweet smoky nose, showing walnuts, roast meat, cola, and soft campfire. Sticky thick body with slugging carb. Candied smoke, black walnuts, sweet cola, and roast meat on the mid palate. Long sticky smoky finish. Nice one.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, picked up in CA, 04/04/15. Light black with a decent tan covering. Nose is rich malt, sweet tunes, treacle toffee, spice, chocolate pudding, stickyfruit rinds. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, light chocolate, toffee fudge, light spice, dark malts. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel, light booze in the close. Decent offering, sweetness is tempered with some spice and bitterness, drinks well below the ABV.

ChrisOs Easter Tasting. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry with good fine carbonation. Big fruity bourbon. Dry dark chocolate and coconut. The dark chocolate is notably rich. Dry finish. Nice but I would have preferred to spend some more leisure time with this.

Bottle at ChrisO’s house of fun. Thanks to Fume T-Bois for supplying. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, juicy, vanilla, fudge, oak, dried fruits, umami and bourbon. The taste is bitter-sweet, smoke, earth, vanilla fudge, booze, dirt, dried fruits hot alcohol action with a dry finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Great aroma, but a bit rough and ready on the taste. Xolid anyhow.

Bottle share at ChrisO’s. Black, small foamy brown head. Aroma is mostly meaty soy sauce with smoke, stock, alcohol. Body is medium, a little foamy, low carbonation. Taste is molasses, treacle, meaty, rubber, smoke, alcohol. Another very sweet Bruery beer. Just not my bag, but interesting to try. They should offer their beers in nip bottles.
