This rustic beer is the result of barrel aging a blend of our Anniversary, English-style old ale, with Smoking Wood, an imperial smoked rye porter. Bois Fumé, meaning "Smoking Wood" in French, is pleasantly sweet with a dry, peaty finish.

75cl, Vintage 2014, new exclusive American blended brew, thx alot to Bruce for bringing this over!, very complex smoked brew, alcoholic/sweet/roasted and slightly smoked/woody, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, WOW!

I really liked this, although it wasn’t getting much notice at the bottle share. Smoky, peaty aroma and taste would make me think this more of a smoked beer than the string ale classified here. Nice woody notes from the barrels also.

There’s some warmth here, but no way do you taste over 16%. The sweetness of the Bois, and the Smoke in the SW balance each other pout, at least a little, and give you a beer that is similar to both but not as over the top as either. Great beer

(750ml bottle) espresso to ruby brown edges, fine tan edge bubbles. Nose is rich and complex, raisin, lightly complex, bourbon, vanilla and dark fruits. Taste of raisin, light smoke and peat, big caramel, bourbon, sweet, rummy. A little sweet overall and a major peaty linger.

A- pours a deep cola brown that is an opaque black once it settles. Big bubbles in the finger light tan head. No lacing. S- bourbon hits you like a gale off an angry ocean. Good molasses, oak, vanilla, peppery, chocolate malt. Peaty in the back, but not overly so. Nice sweetness to this aroma. M- light body for 16% but medium overall. Feels effervescent with some oily quality. T- cola, rhubarb, molasses and chocolate are first. Bourbon and peppery spice come on in the Middle with complimentary vanilla and smoke. Sugar cookies / Pepperidge Farm Chessmen. Ending is slightly tangy and sweet with cacao and a fleeting nuttiness. Wallflower mincemeat spices and some See's chocolate suckers linger in the back.

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the MadTree and Listermann crew; thanks mikem409). Looks good; a slightly translucent dark brown with thin light beige lacing. Smells good too; dark malt, chocolate, smoke, bourbon, and rye spice. Tastes like it smells, but not quite as smooth/balanced. Decent on the palate; you can feel the abv though. Peaty. Still, enjoyable.

Pours a solid black with a short brown head and lacing. It has a rich aroma of bourbon, dark malt, and alcohol. The flavor is bourbon and some smoke with a solid malt backbone and sweet finish with some rye. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Homer321. Thanks buddy! Pours dark brown which ends up black in the glass with a half finger brown khaki head. Big bold aroma if peat, bourbon, oak, vanilla, smoke, caramel, big badass malt and booze here. Flavor is a peaty dark fruit whiskey, caramel, spicy rye, with some vanilla and smoke afterthoughts left there on the palate. Light chocolate and oakiness with booze but not nearly as boozy as I expected. Thick viscous mouthfeel as expected from a big Bruery beer with adequate carbonation. I know this is bourbon aged but it has a definitely rye whiskey time with additional peat and scotch notes.

On draft at Bruery - someone said to me that this is a combination of bourbon, port, and cigars. Add in a little toffee and this is spot on. Very nice blend. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured dark brownish with a thin, khaki head. Killer good stuff here. Everything I love about Smoking Wood but smoothed into beast of an strong ale. The 16.2 offers heat and booze but not terribly too abrasive for being that high. Hints of barrel, whiskey, vanilla, strong oak, and candied caramel fruits.
