Poterie is French for “pottery”, the traditional eight-year anniversary gift. Our eighth anniversary ale, Poterie, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain and then blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year’s production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by. The result is layered in robust and complex flavors of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and oak. Poterie will age gracefully for decades when cellared properly.

Editor’s Note: This is the entry for The Bruery’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Anniversary beer.

Bottled at oh6gdx’s birthday bash at chriso’s. Cloudy dark brown, smal head. Aroma of chocolate sauce and whisky. Full bodied. Caramel drenched in maple syrup. Intense and oaky, vinous and peaty with sticky sweetness. Very heavy with loads of treacle. Too sweet and sticky to be really enjoyable.

ChrisOs Early December Tasting. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Smooth semi dry palate. Rich malt with lots of sweet bourbon. Toasted coconut and a trace of vanilla. Sweetish bourbon finish. Semi dry. Decent but even after 18 months probably a bit young.

Fruet bottle share at Bruce’s birthday bash. Bruce produces a Bruery?! Seems a lot more mellow this version - Sweetish malt, sweet caramel, little vanilla and light tangy dried fruits. Warming afterglow but no real heat in the mouth,
