4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle shared as part of #bottlecherwednesday at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. Poured into a tulip. Liquid is very dark, not quite opaque, brown topped by a two finger tan head that settles quickly to a collar. Some spots of lacing, but not much sticking to the glass. Aroma is dominated by barrel notes: bourbon, vanilla, molasses, cocoa, alcohol, and oak. There are also some nutty and malty notes. Taste is sweet malt, brown sugar, vanilla, and cocoa plus some bourbon and alcohol burn. Medium-plus body, slick, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long warming finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle sampled at the RB Best Awards. Thanks to whoever shared this one. Pours a hazy deep amber brown color with a small beige ring for a head. Notes of vanilla, caramel, bourbon, brown sugar, cocoa, cake, dark fruits, and toasted nuts. There’s a very slight tang in the flavor. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, boozy mouthfeel. Fun one to try and it’s still very good - although it’s not going to get any better.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at RBWG. It pours a dark brown color with an off white head. The aroma is nutty with some almond-like oxidation notes. Toasted malt. The flavor is very nutty with strong cocoa and nice supporting notes of dark fruit. Fig, dates and maybe some sherry. Another one that seems to have done well with some age. A good sipper.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle on the bus, from, I think Jacob. Thanks!
A: Brown/mahogany body with a solid cappuccino head.
N: Toffee, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, and more than a fair amount of prune and raisin.
T: Sweet and not cloying. Not at all bitter.
M: Medium body with a lack of alcohol presence - which is impressive at 13% ABV.
O: A really enjoyable beer that I hope the Bruery remakes. This is potent stuff, but the barrel is very well-integrated. (I suppose it helps that it’s aged out a bit, too.)
