5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our "12 Days of Christmas" winter seasonal ale series. The only golden ale in the bunch, we spiced up the natural pause in the classic song with cinnamon, allspice, and ginger along with the delicious sweet and tangy flavor of pineapple. The barrel aged edition has taken on notable flavors from the time spent in oak, adding a level of burnt wood, sweet bourbon, and under-ripe fruit.

On tap at Pangaea. Thick, sticky, murky copper pour. The little bit of head clings to the ring of the glass, afraid to go any further. Rum barrel notes greet the nose, taste should be done in sips, strong taste and finish, warmth from the get-go. Slow going but worth it.

[ As The Bruery Bourbon Barrel Aged 5 Golden Rings ].
Clear matt light to medium orange color with virtually no head. Aroma is moderate yeasty, heavy alcohol, spicy, sweet malt. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, caramel, candy, alcohol, pineapple, Xmas spices - spicy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. Not my thing - hot - buzzy - sweet - spicy ... [20140809]

Reddish pink clear pour with no head. Smells like apple juice and a bit of bourbon, pineapple and oak. Combination is similar to smelling canned fruit cocktail.. Flat carbonation, sour dry finish. Flavor is syrupy canned fruits with some spices: pineapple and fruit cocktail, cinnamon, oak, nuts, booze, caramel-y bourbon. Not my favorite from them, good by most standards.

Radiant golden body with a small head. Huge booze aroma with pineapple, oak, melon. Instantly cloying. Overpowering alcohol heat. Hard to endure more than a few sips. Bottle could easily be shared 20 ways. Yikes.

750 ml bottle, thanks Huhzubendah. Pours a translucent golden orange with fading head. Aroma is bourbon booze, pineapple and ... A huge booze bomb.

Reddish brown pour, sudsy head. Aroma of pineapple, cherries, and orange peel. Taste is belgian yeast, tart fruit, and a hint of vanilla. Cloying but hides the booze very well.

Shared bottle. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a nice off-white head. Aroma of malt, bourbon, fruit, and spice. Taste is fruit, spice, bourbon, malt, caramel, and some vanilla. A lot going on here, but it works for the most part.

Thanks, Abraham! What a refined, refreshing beer, so well put together in its stark minimalism! Such finesse! Oh wait, sorry - wrong beer. Clear golden amber with a thin, white head that falls off leaving no lacing, this beer has long lasting legs. The nose is a heavy, boozy, sweet blend of vanilla, bourbon and coconut , along with spicy alcohol, fresh green cardamom, sweet syrup and mild pineapple. Medicinal booziness, which actually works because I am fighting a cold. Palate opens with a big, sweet, boozy, messy blend of coconut, bourbon, vanilla and simple syrup; dates and toffee are also present. The mod palate has a stale, canned pineapple character, along with cardamom. Most definitely a chore, this beer has a long, messy finish with cheap booze and some spice. Meh.
