3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to...Mark? A long time want after I passed on a good opportunity not long ago.
A typically hefty BA brew from Mr. Rue, but it packs some nice golden ale spice and fruit (pear, apple?) notes underneath some caramel and bourbon sweetness and while not particularly drinkable holds interesting flavors within.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
25.4 oz bottle. Clear electric orange with no head. Nose is funky butterscotch, toffee, mild bourbon and vanilla. Medium body with a soft tang. Taste is golden raisin, peach, apricot and toffee with the bourbon coming more to the front as it warms. Surprisingly the bourbon works well here.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml. Thank you again Mr. Eric Footbalm! Poured cloudy golden. Nose was bourbon, oak, and sweet malts. Taste had maple, bourbon, sweet malts, dry mouth feel, but with a sweet finish. Definitely a more complex version of itís predecessor, and more enjoyable.

Very nice, the barrels smoothed some of the sharpness from the Batch 1.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 205/456. Another interesting brew. Thanks to Eric. Pours a cloudy orange color with very little head and carbonation. Otherwise, it was quite nice. All the intense fruitiness of the batch one Levud, but a huge intense bourbon flavor sweet vanilla and wood. Really struck me as unusual but a good usage of the barrels. The lack of carbonation was a downside but it was very nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 19, 2011 Sampled at nastynateís house after brewvival side by side with the regular levuds. I prefered this version, but still, neither really did much for me. Darker hued and more honey and vanilla flavors pronounced. But it was pretty late in the night, so my notes are a little lacking on this one...
Sampled at the Richmond 14th Gathering. better as this has aged. smoother. more refined. not nearly as hot. just subtley hot.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is a clear golden color with minimal carbonation and a fleeting white head.
S: A wonderful and well integrated bourbon aroma to this beer with sweet vanilla and oak notes that blend in quite nicely with the sweet honey and caramel aromas of the beer. Some sweet fruits such as pears and golden apples, too.
T: The bourbon flavor is nowhere nears pronounced as I would have expected given the flavor. Sweet caramel and toffee malts along with hints of spice, pears, and apples. Subtle vanilla notes and a touch of booze.
M: The body is medium with a carbonation on the low end of the spectrum--a bit slick.
D: I was actually quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this beer. The nose was quite pleasant but the flavor (unfortunately) didnít fully match up. Still a nice beer, though.
