COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The second beer in a series of dark sours (all called Carmen). This one has cranberries added to it.

Pours black with a small brown head. Looks like a porter. Thin. Nose is vinegar, lemons, hints of chocolate and very subtle berry notes. Taste is sweet and sour in an ever changing wave throughout. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, the body is medium and the finish is long.

Getting somewhat repetitive here with all these Carmen ratings, but they’re all basically the same beer with light flavor alterations produced by the fruit additions. The base beer is, in my opinion, a touch too acetic and "heavy", perhaps. I tend to prefer crisper, lighter sours that are easier to drink. Something like Sour in the Rye.

Draft at the bruery tasting room with Linh. Pours a deep brown body with no head, very light white lacing. Aroma

This one is pretty heavy to me. Pours a dark brown/red. Sour from the beer hits first then the cranberry kicks in. A slow sipper for sure. Getting a bigger hit of alcohol than I would expect too.

Tap at The Bruery. Dark brown with tan head. Lots of dark fruits and candy sugar. Tartness is well balanced. This is a sour with a lot of complex flavors. I liked it a lot.

On tap at the Bruery. Pours with a nearly black hued body and a small khaki head that stays for a while. Aroma is a bit sharper than the other version. Acidic malic, citric and tannic. Cranberries, dark fruits, vinous with some balsamic/acetic notes. Flavors are funky, a bit roasty, chocolate, brown sugar, cranberries, caramelization and vinegar. Lively bubbles. Hard to drink a roasty and acetic sour like this when it was in the low 90’s inside the Bruery. Might have scored higher if not for the environment (I will re-rate given the opportunity).

A: The beer pours a murky dark brown-amber color with almost no head to speak of. S: Smells fairly acetic. Quite a bit of vinegar to go along with a mild cherry and cranberry notes. Quite leathery with some oak, red wine, red wine vinegar, and a bit of balsamic vinegar. T: Slightly sweet with a lot of oak and red wine. A fair amount of vinegar to go along with a moderate fruitiness. A bit of raisin, cherry, and cranberry. Though, the cranberry flavor isn’t quite as intense as expected. The finish is slightly abrasive, especially as it warms. M: Medium bodied with a low to medium carbonation to it. O: Definitely better than the raisin version. Still a bit acetic for my tastes.
