Pours a dark brown, almost black color, with a fizzy, hazelnut brown lacing, immediately collapsing to a tiny film at the edge of the glass. Has a profound milk chocolate aroma, blending into coconut shell and flowery, warming vanilla. Its vanilla quality grows more profound, once detected, complimenting earthy oak and fudge, with a fizzy coca-cola sweetness. Features almost no carbonation, exhibiting a smooth, big body, due to a hot, profound oakiness, balanced by burned earth and a flowery quality. Begins with toffee supported vanilla bean among scorched earth and bitter chocolate chips. The Bourbon barrel adds a warming glow to the tongue, which amazingly enough never turns hot or boozy, as well as spiced, dry wood bark. Mocha sweetness, together with rock sugar and a pleasant chocolate bitterness create a thrilling interplay, wrapped up by the omnipotent barrel, including a huge amount of vanilla. Finishes with a mix of earthen malts and a spicy dryness, creating a palate challenging finish, which lasts on the tongue for minutes. After that dryness, a late caramel coated milk chocolate quality evolves, creating a mellowing, silk last impression. While its nose features a focussed, minimalistic approach, the beers full potential unfolds on the palate, in all its heavy-bodied facetts. It is certainly well executed, but for my personal taste, this is just a tad too over the top. Its richness overburdens my palate, it needs to chill down for a couple of minutes after each sip, which is basically not how a beer works for me. This is closer to being a liquour for me, on which I can sip from time to time. We split the bottle through three people and had problems to finish it.

Large shared 2013 bottle that went quickly! Sweet aroma with some alcohol esters precedes an even boozier and markedly sweet flavor. Near cloying sweet level. Little chocolate before the aftertaste, and then itís more milk than dark chocolate. O: didnít quite live up to its reputation.

18% bottle. Aroma of intense bourbon, earthy cocoa nibs, molasses, the bourbon to start with was very well integrated and gives a top of caramel, coconut and vanilla to the intense dark chocolate molasses that is this beer. Quite easy drinkable, it is boozy, to start with, this beer was pretty cold (12C) and I think I preferred it that way, the flavors were muted, but so were the booze, as it warmed up the bourbon overtook everything, and the nuances of the beer disappeared. In taste the booze isnít that hard hitting, Iíd guess a 13-14% beer. Taste is bourbon, burned sugar, vanilla, creme brulee, toffee, with a mellow dark chocolate note running through, which is very well accompanied by the chocolate and oak. It is quite thin, more so than the Mocha Wednesday I had a week before.

From 750ml bottle. Thanks Constantin! Black color with brown head. Malty aroma, roasted, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, dark dried fruits, raisins, figs, plums. Heavy sweet taste like aroma. Almost full body, silky with soft carbonation.

Bottle at home, acquired in a trade. Very sweet, chocolate, alcohol-warmth present. Decent but quite onedimensional. Why the hell do they release this in such big bottles anyway. Youíll enver finish this bottle with less than 10 people, or you just get diabetes.

750ml bottle of 2013 release. Pours a brown color without any head. Rich chocolate flavor with the vanilla coming in at the end. Some alcohol warmth, but overall pretty smooth.

750 mL bottle shared with ebone1988. 2014 vintage. The pour is a thinner dark brown, maybe medium black. There is a little bit of head, khaki in color, that fades down quickly to a collar. The aroma is heavy, heavy booze. It's 19.5%, so I shouldn't be surprised, but damn. The barrel character is really prominent with a nice oak and a heavy booze and maybe a light vanilla on the back, but there isn't a lot of chocolate. The flavor is real good, until the booze. The chocolate is huge, rich, milky, and wonderful with a great vanilla and some excellent malts and a nice oakiness. The heat dominates the back end. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with a great chocolate and vanilla offset and a heavy, heavy booze on the back end. This is more of a chocolate tasting liqueur. The finish is hot and oaky. Not too bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with koleminer20. Vintage 2014. Aroma is hot, but otherwise chocolate, vanilla, roasted and sweet malt, barrel, delectable. Appearance is black, poured thin, light brown head. Taste is chocolate crazy, with vanilla, barrel, roasted malt, sweet as hell but INCREDIBLY HOT. Mouthfeel is great, pretty thick but too hot, I doubt the hotness will mellow. Otherwise, great carbonation, thick and oily. Overall, itís very tasty but overpowered by booze.

From notes on 6/27/15 Opened this bottle with 3 other people. Probably a good thing since it is so big. Pour a thick black body with pretty much no head. Huge sweet cocoa aroma. Almost overwhelming taste. Just a ton of cocoa and vanilla with lots of bourbon. It has a pretty strong bite on the tongue. You can tell there is a lot of alcohol. Still, I very much so enjoyed this beer.

2015 vintage bottle. Dark brown mahogany pour. Aroma is light malt, light barrel, light marshmallow. Taste is vanilla, marshmallow, cola, oak, booze. Desserty without being quaffable.Good impy - as you drink more the alcohol gets less noticeable, but that might just be the intoxication speaking.
