750mL bottle courtesy of Shane! Thanks. Split 3 ways. Consumed 9-3, reviewed from notes. A: Sludge and tar. Heavy pour yields a very thin mocha lacing which will quickly dissipate. Not as viscous in the glass as it first appears. N: Tons of prune and bourbon. Fudge and soy sauce. The promised vanilla is plenty obvious, and there’s a very good similarity to blackberry brandy. T: Very much like a port heavily laden with chocolate and cherries. Snapping vanilla and rough dark chocolate similar to mocha powder. Prune and some more of the blackberry brandy. Huge alcohol presence. And oh yes, chocolate deserves another mention. M: Drying and thick. The drying aspect is somewhat unique as its similar to the way baker’s chocolate scrapes your mouth clean. Don’t find this terribly successful. O: Very glad to try this. Was very intense, but I feel like it could benefit from some more body and less chocolate. And this is coming from someone who’s a bit of a choco-nut.

egajdzis (5527) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 9, 2012
Opaque black with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla bean, vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, charred wood, and alcohol. Taste of dark chocolate, vanilla beans, wood, bourbon, char, and strong alcohol all the way through.

callmemickey (3511) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 5, 2012
Dark brown-black body, fine skim of khaki suds. Nose is sweet with brown sugar, caramel, chocolate, and of course, bourbon. Flavor tails off a bit in complexity as the sugars in the profile clash and compete with one another. Full bodied, slightly cloying, lightly carbonated, oily, filling. Underwhelming considering how much I liked 09 Black Tuesday.

Ober (2812) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - AUG 28, 2012
A black colored beer, with a dark beige head. The aroma of chocolate with alcohol and several dark fruits. The taste of pure chocolate some sweet of dark fruits with alcohol. The aftertaste of bitter chocolate with alcohol notes.

At small epic tasting in Kulminator thx to jhenry4 for trading !!

Glad i got to try this next to Black Tuesday !
Head: nothind
Colour: dark brown to black
Smell: like black Tuesday but less boozey and more rounded with extra touches of chocolate and vanilla
Taste: exactly what i tought , more rounded and creamier than the Black Tuesday, less straight up booze but more like a very well balanced Bourbon with notes of vanilla, chocolate and a bit of roasted malts , awesome brew !

Bottle shared at Woodshop 7. Pours dark brown with a filmy tan head. Heavy sweet boozy and creamy throughout, chocolate liqueur and See’s caramels. Rich and luxurious, ultra-sweet but quite delicious.

Poured into a snifter, about 6-7 oz. 2011 vintage (batch 2). 3.0 A: Deep brown/black color. Head fell just about as soon as it was made. 4.0 S: Surprisingly, the booze is fairly well hidden, in the the nose at least. Big roastiness, lots of sweetness, but reasonable. Chocolate, vanilla, molasses, and leathery bourbon. Coffee underneath. It’s intense, but it doesn’t have much of the subtlety or complexity that I like to discover in the style. 2.5 T: Big roast, lots of chocolate, caramel, and molasses. Vanilla with oak underneath. Big leathery bourbon. Uncontrolled sweetness and booze, but not quite as bad as BT ’11 was. 3.0 M: Heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Too thick and chewy though otherwise okay. 2.5 D: This is undoubtably tough to drink and no one in my ’burgh tasting group cared for it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-18-2012 00:04:47

August 5, 2012 bottle shared by Brett at his tasting event. Dark brown pour with almost no head. Alcohol, chocolate and vanilla in the aroma and taste. Very thick and smooth, just how I like ’em. Liked this a tad more than BT, but struggled if it was a tenth of a point more. Seriously, Brett’s generosity knows no ends with another huge beer he shared. I am very appreciative to have met such a great guy, just an amazing night!

750 ml to taster (from notes; sampled next to Black Tuesday ’11). Looks good; dark-brown with low carbonation and no real head or carbonation to speak of. Smells good too; sweet, chocolate, vanilla, and malt. Tastes like it smells and boozy with a good mouthfeel. I liked this a lot more than BT.

Bottle shared at Wood Shop 7, 2012. Dirty, brownish-black. Big, barrel-aged nose, lots of vanilla and chocolate, some berry. Very sweet flavor, chocolaty, vanilla. Straight-out sweet—not much roasted flavors going on. Nice, but a little over the top.
