3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at EBF, 3/22/14
Dark brown pour, quite black but showing decent clarity and a small but moderately well retained grey head.
Sweet and rich chocolate, fudge, peanut brittle, vanilla-soaked raisin liqueur and touches of coffee and bit of punchy hoppiness. No alcohol or heat, and despite smelling very richly fudgey, it somehow works well and dosent seem to smell like it’s going to be a sugar bomb.
Yep, sweet as all hell, but I dont know if it’s my newfound tolerance for malt, or this is just somehow adeptly malted, but I can really get behind the chocolate flavors and malt richness. Drawn out vanilla helps balance to some extent, while roastiness and a touch of char, very nicely executed, keep it just balanced enough to keep the chocolatey-rich malt balanced and make you want to drink another sip. Rich, velvety, but importantly, not syrupy texture also exhibits nicely tight carbonation, further helping keep things drinkable. Didnt think I was going to like it, but I’ve got to admit to being very impressed. Probably helped that I was just drinking a sample, but honestly, I would have had another 6 ounces more. Uh oh, I hope my tastes arent changing for the worse....

slight beige head that disappears fast without lacing. coffee colour. aroma is boozy, bourbon, sweet, coconut, vanilla .. overwhelming and artificial. the taste is like the aroma but coated with an overdose of sugar and syrup that just keeps on going. rather dense mouthfeel, soft carbonation. gets tiresome to drink just after a few sips, just an unbalanced sugary mess imho and i don’t get all the hype. bottle 75 cl / 2013

Bottle: Poured a dark pitch black with brown head. Aroma had dark fruit, chocolate/cocoa, and vanilla. Taste was very sweet chocolate, with huge alcohol boozy burn. The sweetness lingered with me.

Bomber. Deep murky rich brown pour with a small soapy head. Huge aroma of vanilla, cocoa, wood, bourbon, and booze. Same on taste. Killer - bold and aggressive - love this!

Thanks to berntholer for sharing this one. If you want to smell & taste alcohol, molasses, sugar, coconut and artificial vanilla (Bruery trademark); this is your beer. Sugar all over the place, I’m instant diabetic. f you would like to drink stuff like this, it is cheaper to eat a Bounty and mix it with some Coca Cola. After the regular Darklord, this is again an overhyped American one. To me, it is rather Chocolate Drain.

Bottle from birdmachine and the doodler Thanks guys! Black thin pour, not much head to speak of which isn’t surprising given the abv. Aroma..holy shit balls, its a cup of brownie batter, with lots of oak an bourbon. Taste, well I poured way to much of this, it is very sweet, not cloying per say but you best like rich desert beers, lots of chocolate and vanilla, finishes with hits of oak and bourbon, hides the booze better than its BT predecessor. Personally I like Black Tuesday better but this was a really fun beer to try, make sure you share cause getting through a bottle of this on your own would be like that one time you thought it be cool to chug four litres of milk.

Tasted at a bottle share in a hotel room after the most recent Jackie-O’s bottle release. Wow, can’t believe this is getting cracked.. Solid 3oz sample, here. Looks unimpressive... Very dark brown color, no head or lace. Wow, the nose... Too intense, too sweet up close. I had to smell it with at least a foot in between. Lots of vanilla, cocoa, massive sweetness noticeable in the nose, makes me nervous to take a first sip.. Wow... First sip... Tons of massive dark chocolate syrup, and some light coffee. Bigger body. Drying finish. Lighter carbonation. Lots of cookie dough. Bigger sweet taste. A moderate to bigger alcohol heat, some light burn, but not an uncomfortable amount. Damn interesting, tasty stuff to try. Aside from the obvious alcohol (mild for 20% though), a bit too sweet for my taste. A pleasure to have the opportunity to try this, though. Very tasty, interesting stuff... I wouldn’t be eager to chief a whole 10oz pour, though.

2013Bottle, thanks tommy. Pours dark mohageny with a fast fading tan lace. Nose is big and syrupy chocolate, fresh vanilla, bourbon. Really smooth mouthfeel for the strength with a rich chocolate milk type flavor. Enjoyed this much more than expected.
