UPDATED: JAN 20, 2014 (Cuir 100% BBA received from BlackIPA, huge thanks Shawn!) Bottle shared with tom10101, Minderbinder and David... thank you guys for the great tasting in the afternoon! Pours a nice and dark brown, almost molasse-like. OK, this is an intense beer. Intense booze and malts aroma with the bourbon sticking out greatly. You can almost tell which barrels they used. Taste-wise it is again really, really sweet! It is a bit hot but for a brew this big it is expected and a tour de force to hide it completely. The Bruery really knows how to brew these extreme beers! (4.3)

2014-01-18: A 25% version proved a little less elegant but still really nice and easy to drink for such a big beer. I picked up some dark fruits in this one which I didn’t pick in the 100% edition it seems. (3.9+)

Given the bottle is 5 plus years old I am trying to balance what this once was versus what it is now. Lots of caramel sweetness but also some sherry like oxidation. Their Anni beers are spectacular and there is no reason to believe this wasn’t at one point. The alcohol has been subdued quite a bit but the oxidation isn’t a great replacement for me.

Tasted on 8/31/13 from a capped 750mL bottle that I had purchased at a Whole Foods a long time prior. Pours muddy brown with no head. The nose is mostly oxidized with caramel, toffee, raisin, date, and maple. The flavor is not as far gone as the nose with all of the same caramel, raisin, date, and maple, and the toffee showing a bit more toasted bitter. The body is huge with no carbonation and a long burnt sugar and sweet finish.

2011 Cuir bottle. Murky dark brown pour with almost no head. Awesome burnt caramel aroma along with some sweet toffee, vanilla, and plums. Tastes like liquid candy. Burnt caramel, vanilla, oak, some dark fruit. Pretty awesome. No booze at all. It’s a sipper but doesn’t seem anywhere near 14.5%. I love this.

The head is ok, the body darkbrown and cloudy. It smells darkmalty, raisin, dry fruits, bit alcoholic but not much for 14.5%. The taste is darkmalty, aromatic, hoppy, sour, fruity. Intensive barrel aged taste. Delicious!

750ml bottle courtesy of Thanasis. Dark red brown color with small beige head. Aroma is malty, caramel, fruity, dark fruits, pecorino cheese, wood. Sweet and light bitter taste, malty caramel and fruity, some vanilla notes, wood again. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle of Cuir. Aroma is showing some slight oxidation with sherry notes. Lots of dark dried fruit including raisins and prunes. Some dark toffee and caramel notes with a bit of a smokey roast character. Hint of meaty soy sauce. Light alcohol note. Pours a somewhat murky, burnt amber with brown hues. Moderate sized, fairly thick, dark tan head that exhibits good retention as it recedes to a thin film in the center of the glass. Flavor is rather sweet with a lot of dark caramel and toffee notes. Lighter chocolate and burnt sugar with hints of roast and smoke. Moderate dark fruit notes of cherry and plums. Some raisin and prune notes as well. Faint meaty, soy sauce note; definitely lighter than the aroma. Medium light alcohol spice. Lingering dry fruit and dark caramel. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but I can’t tell whether its going through a bit of a weird phase or totally turning for the worse with that meaty note. Its quite a different beer from the Fruet I recently had. Lots more fruit notes and signs of age.

shared bottle by a friend, bruery CUIR, 100% bourbon barrel aged! poured a deep brown ambr colour with a small non lasting off head. verry bourbon forward, caramel, toffee, oak, vanilla, almond, dried red fruit, it’s drinking very easy for it’s 14,5% bourbon soaked raisins, plum, molasses, really smooth bourbon, just my kind of beer!
