COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The recipe for Einer’s Folly was created by Temecula home brewer Eric Holden and was the winning recipe out of hundreds of entrants at the ‘09 Holiday Wine Cellar Home Brew Competition. Folly offers a bold, roasted, medium body, with a massive chocolate, malty richness that is balanced with soft flavors of sweet vanilla bean, toffee & a pleasant oaky-bourbon character. Finishing with a nice, dry, aggressively hoppy bitterness, this beauty weighs in with an ABV of 8%! Einer’s Folly is great enjoyed fresh or hold on to it and it will mature beautifully with time.

Bottle thanks to jdubfl: Poured brown with red edges, head was off white to tan. The aroma is burnt roasted malt, bacon, and vanilla. The taste is gritty roasted burnt chocolate malt, nice vanilla, and mixed woods. Finish is dry and slightly bitter.

750 ml bottle; pours dense black with thin tan head lingering; mix of chocolate, tangerines and vanilla on the nose; chalky malt with smooth chocolate, roast and vanilla flavors; ashy dry finish with thin texture overall; a clean, super attenuated porter with milky chocolate, a little bourbon and dry oak; the level of vanilla bean is very minor and integrates well into the overall beer

750ml bottle thanks to Sandstone on BA. Pours darkest brown in color, mostly opaque, with a large tan head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, vanilla, and lots of oak. Maybe some gingerbread. Pretty in-your-face. Flavor is really intense and overexaggerated. Heavy-handed on the vanilla and spices (cinnamon and allspice come to mind) with oak, roast, chocolate, and coffee. Tasty but not too balanced. Medium-full bodied and smooth on the palate. A little dry. This is a good beer overall, but it’s a little too in-your-face, and I’m beginning to start appreciating balanced beers a lot more than the "throw as much stuff as you can in there" type.

Thanks Ben – Black beer thin brown head. This was thick with lots of chocolate aroma and flavor. Very roasty and finished quite nice. Great Porter.

750ml bottle. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, vanilla, oaky, woody, and earthy. Tastes of vanilla (more than in the aromas), chocolate, lighter woodiness, caramel, and nuts.

thanks to Jdubfl for cracking this one. pours dark brown, tan head. aroma, got a lot of nice powdery cocoa nibs, hints of vanilla and aint wood/oak presence. flavors, nice roasted malts, some lingering chocolate leaning on the nibs/flakes side, the malt is meshed with some nice mocha like presence leaving a mild bitterness. The vanilla beans is not coming through as much as was the oak mouthfeel. Still, a very solid beer.

Thanks to jdubfl for the share. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Nose is slight roast, nice vanilla, some bourbon, and a mild amount of coffee. Flavor is about the same: roast, vanilla, a bit of bourbon. The coffee flavor emerges more as the beer warms, but noticeable thinner in body than I like and not as much chocolate as I would expect. Nice vanilla character, but not as much porter.

750 ml bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar purchased on the April 24 release day ($13.99). Pours what appears to be a pitch black with two fingers of mocha colored foam. Aroma is really complex with various notes of bourbon, ash/smoke, bacon, lightly burnt toast, and a surprising amount of fruit (grape and apple seem to stand out). Taste is similarly complex with dark roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, and then it moves into a rather strong fruitiness. A really dark coffee (almost burnt) flavor lingers in the finish. Although it’s already very complex, I’m hoping that it will improve with age...good thing I have three more bottles. (32, 317)

hopscotch (8215) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 3, 2010
Bottle… Pours very dark with clear crimson highlights and a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma presents lots of vanilla and toffee, but surprisingly little chocolate. Medium-bodied and coarse with wimpy carbonation. The flavor consists mainly of bitter cocoa and oak. Lengthy, woody, carbonaceous finish.

Pours a deep brown almost black with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma of light smoke, vanilla, wood, chocolate, nuts and caramel. Flavor of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, oak and nuts.
