COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Cloudy beige body......... no cap. So very light. Memories of citrus, orange, grape, dry, and light. Complety clean aftertaste. I can truly hit the wheaty malt. Buble gum! Tartness builds........ lingers. Does sour equal yum like the bottle says, sure why not.

750 mL bottle from 2011. Aroma is acidic and citrus forward with quite a bit of lemon character but also some tart orange. Light tropical fruit notes with a moderate wheat character. Pours a fairly clear, pale yellow straw color with a moderately sized, frothy, white head that recedes to a small layer then persists throughout. No lacing or legs. Flavor is fairly acidic with a strong lactic note. Moderate lemon notes with a touch of lime. Moderately strong, somewhat stale wheat character. Light tropical fruit notes with a hint of barnyard in the finish. A bit of a mineral character in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is light bodied with moderately high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice Berliner. Nice refreshing tartness with some good wheat notes. I donít think the age helped this though as the wheat has become a bit stale.

750ml capped bottle pours a hazy straw color with a finger of white head that leaves no lacing on the glass. Aroma is orange zest with hints of yeast and citrus. Taste is an orange zesty bitterness with a lemon sourness and spicy hop bitterness with very little sweetness. Light bodied with little carbonation. Not something that I particularly enjoyed. Disappointed with this one.

This one is at least 4 years old, been in my basement with the original cap! The aroma is sweet light candi sugar and light tart. The body is pretty clean with a balanced lightly sweet wheat note immediately followed by a pleasant clean balanced tartness. So simple yet so delicious in the tradition of the style.

ive passed this one over at the store time and time again, thinking it would be too sour for my liking. in fact, this one is a really perfect example of the style. very nice.

Dammit! It's! So! TART!!! But so very good! Slight wheaty aroma with a huge tart flavor that has some sweetness in the back side.

Pours a hazy orangish brown from the bottle with quickly dissipating bubbly white head that leaves little to no lace. Aroma is funky lactic wheat with a hint of lemon in there, Belgian yeast on the back end. Taste is like a funky Belgian wit, a hint of acidity, dry and heavy on the wheat. Not bad, definitely to the style guidelines, but was hoping for a little bit more.

This light gold beer has a very pleasing aroma of green apple. It has a tart flavor but the wheat notes really come through. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a fresh lemon color with a easily aggravated foamed cap. The look alone looks refreshing. A very funky dank smell. A tart grassy smell that I simply canít get enough of. The taste is spot on with a very fresh feel on the tongue and not too much carbonation. A nice lemon warhead type flavor which I love. Also a fresh grassy note in the taste that relaxes the mouthfeel. A dry finish that closes it out besides the sourness thatís left on the tongue and lips. Very refreshing an quenching. And at 3.1% you can literally drink this stuff all day. Great stuff.

Appearance: pours with a large white head that settles pretty quick but forms a nice density, the beer is a very cloudy golden yellow color Aroma: tart, lemon, yeast, wild, sweet, sour, strawberry, very impressed with this aroma, very strong and very complex aroma, grain is in there too, could smell for days Taste: very sour, very tart, wheat grain, wildness, Palate: Lively carbonation, leaves mouth dry, light mouthfeel, slight sour aftertaste Overall: very impressed with this beer, this beer is nothing like any of the 428 beers Iíve tested before this, completely unique, delicious, has an aroma that will surprise you
