Hottenroth Berliner Weisse is brewed in memory of Fred & Sarah Hottenroth, our founder, Patrick Rueís grandparents. This tart, German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We use lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people.

Light hazy straw hue with a thin white rocky top. Big cheesy sulphuric fart on the nose, but you can kinda get a little banana and guava fruitiness underneath it. Better taste than the aroma but itís just a bit bretty wheaty and a touch of acidic lemon rind. Dry and wheaty flavor with lots of funky Brett.

From notes (10/7/15). Good and refreshing after a long and unexpectedly hot day. Itís dry, thin, sour, and effervescent, and itís a really solid if somewhat one-dimensional Berliner Weisse.

Iím bias...I love this style, fell in love with Berliner Kindl when I was stationed in Germany for 5 years. Pours a golden yellow color with big fizzy head. Aromas of citrus peel, yeast, hay. Flavors are tart sour apple, grass, and some barnyard.

750ml bottle pours hazy pale yellow with a finger of fizzy head. Nose is hay, lemon, mineral, wet straw, grain, citrus. Taste is crisp, medium acidity, wet grain backdrop with snappy farm lemon and citrus fruit, judt a hint of hayfield funk. Finishes tart with cereal grain, lemon, orange, wheat. Solid berliner.

On tap at The Mayor of Old Town. Pale yellow and light hazy appearance with a white head. Aroma of tart lemons, corn, toasted grains, light herbs and light bread. Similar flavor, mildly tart with a light sweet finish and a light body. A pretty decent Berliner overall, but probably my least favorite Terreux so far (of 11).

Bottle. Pours light golden, with a big creamy head settling two fingers thick. Aroma is pretty strange fruity lactic acid with lime and musty apricot peel, as well as some notes of yeast and yoghurt. Light body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is tart lactic acid with lemon and fruity notes of apricots.

Draft @ Bruery. Aroma of tardy wheat. Fresh taste of sour wheat and mild salt. Mildly fruity. Very refreshing and nice.
