COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Bottle at share at the Syb Pig in Boca Raton. Thanks Edgar! Small snifter pour of a hazy, almost milky yellow with a one finger pillow head. Some nice lacing. Aroma of citrus especially lemon, brett, lemon-cello, bread and cereal. The taste was not overly sour or tart, but just right with the lemons coming to life. As it warmed more lemons appeared. I didn’t use any woodruff on this one. The Citric acid wasn’t too harsh and the brett/lacto was in check nicely. Nice clean finish, easy to drink. Overall another good one from The Bruery.

750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow colour with a white foamy head. Aroma of green apples, some citrus and berries. Flavour of really strong gooseberry notes, herbs, grassy bitterness, tart quark notes and green apples. Light bodied. Really refreshing. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours pale yellow in color with a white head. Orange zest, notes of yeast, tart fruityness and lemon in aroma. Feels very fresh. Funky taste along with notes of lemon and tart fruityness. A bit of sweet fruityness along with notes of wheat appears later on and more lemony notes steps up again towards the end. Crisp finish with a nice amount of lemon. Nice balance between citrus fruityness, funkyness and earthyness here.

Great palate cleanser. Tart, dry, bubbly with a fair whack of salt. Good flavour for the ABV. Super dry finish.

Bottle split at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey, 06/09/14. Clear light golden with a moderate off white covering that soon dissipates. Nose is oaky wood, vanilla, light melon, subtle florals, hint of caramel, citric rinse, peachy. Taste comprises butterscotch Angel Delight, kumquat, apricot, light acidity, subtle brett, lemon rind, mellow citrics. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a little sweet lick here and there. Decent ’Linner, a little sweeter and more candified than most.

Bottle at the Bottle Shop with Harry. Hazy gold lasting white head. Sourish aroma. Papery apple aroma. Not a great beer. Some sour lemon in the flavour. Not my favourite. Ok ish.

Bottle at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey. A quite unique, well-balanced honey-ish wheat beer, only suffering a bit from a nasty aroma. Taste id very grainy, sour, fruity. very full-bodied for such a low-abv’er.

Nice Berliner... Pours hazed straw yellow with full white head. Nose is tart and straw. Clean. Flavor is tart and clean, citrus and refreshing. Low alcohol, just like I’d want. Pretty drinkable.

Very cloudy, murky golden white color. Very unappealing look. The nose is very interesting, as its tart with some brett, but the lacto is also fairly present with a dash of lemon. The mouth is modestly tart with lots of lacto notes. A bit too overpowering perhaps. Despite the tartness, it is highly quaffable and light, but the lacto finish is a tad too much. Overall I like this, but wouldn’t drink a ton of it.

Bottle. Pours straw, lively carbonation, big head that dissipates quickly. Lemon, yeasty aroma. Upfront taste makes your butt cheeks pucker, super tart with hints of lemon and green apples. Interestingly, after the tart I can taste a slight sweetness, which balances it nicely. Great for session beer, but makes for record breaking belches.
