COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Bottle at share at the Syb Pig in Boca Raton. Thanks Edgar! Small snifter pour of a hazy, almost milky yellow with a one finger pillow head. Some nice lacing. Aroma of citrus especially lemon, brett, lemon-cello, bread and cereal. The taste was not overly sour or tart, but just right with the lemons coming to life. As it warmed more lemons appeared. I didn’t use any woodruff on this one. The Citric acid wasn’t too harsh and the brett/lacto was in check nicely. Nice clean finish, easy to drink. Overall another good one from The Bruery.

Rating #1140 - 27.06.2014 - Bottle from CBI - My first Berliner Weiss (AB was always a bit of a sour wasteland) - Pours a bubbly light yellow with a decent head - medium retention. Aroma is mild lemon, mild soapy funk. Palate is tart, notes of lemon. Medium-high carbonation. Very refreshing.

750ml at 99 Bottles, Santa Cruz. Strikingly clear gold, made more amazing by dint of its unfiltered, bottle-conditioned nature, with tall receding white froth. Sweet, gentle wheat malt suffuses with grippier grapefruit juice aromas. Lemon juice is the dominant flavor, while subtler paste and cedar notes get almost washed away. Quite tart and refreshing, verging on watery.

Thanks to oldmanriver for sharing this beer with me. Light orange, ´hazy, small head. A light sour aroma, fruity, raspberries and green apple --> very refreshing. Strong sour taste, but very clean and dry. Dry and full finish with some hop nuances.

(Bottle) Pale yellow with slight head which disappeared very fast. First glass from bottle was hazy, third was cloudy, but most yeast remained in bottle). Slightly funky, slightly tart aroma. Light bodied with plentiful coarse carbonation. Sour, but in a good way, sort of reminiscent of a dry scrumpy (without the apples!). Some peppery spice, some farmyard, but mostly sour. Sour, interesting - glass I had rich and salty food as an accompaniment.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with medium frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong citrus, brett, and dough. Thin mouthfeel, very tart lemon, brett, light dry finish, crushable, very nice.
