Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

Bottle at share at the Syb Pig in Boca Raton. Thanks Edgar! Small snifter pour of a hazy, almost milky yellow with a one finger pillow head. Some nice lacing. Aroma of citrus especially lemon, brett, lemon-cello, bread and cereal. The taste was not overly sour or tart, but just right with the lemons coming to life. As it warmed more lemons appeared. I didn’t use any woodruff on this one. The Citric acid wasn’t too harsh and the brett/lacto was in check nicely. Nice clean finish, easy to drink. Overall another good one from The Bruery.

Khaki color with no head but really carbonated. Nose of sour apples. Light tart flavor. Thin body with apples in the finish. Slight card board after the swallow. Heavier than an original Berliner Weisse but pretty close.

Murky orange color, no head. Nice lemon grape nose. Good original refreshing Berliner Weisse taste that goes a bit quick with a light cardboard aftertaste. Nicely carbonated.

On tap at Tuman’s in Chicago. Flavor is very tart but no not overwhelming or unappetizingly so. Very crisp quenching finish. Outstanding Berliner Weisse.

Funky bile-like, acidic aromas. Hazy pale straw with a decently lasting white head. Tart, lemony, hints of white wine grapes, mild pink Nerds. Light bodied.

Gahh awful smell like bread starter dough, very cloudy and buttery. The taste, on the other hand, is deliciously sour, crisp and fruity, sour peaches, unripe pineapple.

Shared with Zach, pours a pale light yellow golden color with a cream colored head. Nose is tart with deep grain. Taste is sour and tart and refreshingly so, with wheaty grainy notes. Finish is dry, acidic , light and sour. A nice Berliner , so take it for what iti is. Quaff Score 7 / 10
